Ange Postecoglou Set To Take Charge at Nottingham Forest After Nuno’s Departure

Nottingham Forest are on the verge of appointing Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo. The Australian manager is expected to be officially confirmed within the next 24 hours and could even be in the dugout for Forest’s Premier League clash against Arsenal on Saturday.

Postecoglou is also set to bring several of his former Tottenham Hotspur coaching staff with him to the City Ground. Notably, the 60-year-old was sacked by Spurs in June after guiding them to Europa League glory. Despite delivering Tottenham’s first major trophy in 17 years with victory over Manchester United in last season’s Europa League final, a poor domestic campaign saw Spurs finish 17th in the Premier League, leading to his departure.

Football jornalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Ange Postecoglou has officially been appointed as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach. The Australian manager has signed a contract running until June 2027 after both parties’ lawyers approved the deal. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis moved quickly to finalize the agreement with Ange Postecoglou.

Ange Postecoglou’s Impressive Managerial Journey

Postecoglou’s managerial journey spans more than two decades, beginning in his homeland of Australia. He coached multiple clubs in Australia and the national youth sides before leading the Socceroos between 2013 and 2017. He then moved to Japan, winning the J-League with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2019.

He then enjoyed a trophy-laden stint at Celtic, where he secured five domestic titles in just two seasons. His first year at Spurs ended with a fifth-place Premier League finish in 2023-24, though inconsistency plagued his second year despite European success. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has long admired Postecoglou, who has Greek roots and also has previous managerial experience in the country with Panachaiki.

His arrival signals a fresh chapter for the club as they prepare for their first European campaign in three decades. Nottingham qualified for the Europa League after Crystal Palace’s demotion to the Conference League.

Meanwhile, Nuno leaves behind a mixed legacy at the City Ground. Appointed in December 2023 after Steve Cooper’s dismissal, he preserved Forest’s Premier League status in his first season and guided them to an impressive seventh-place finish last term. But his relationship with Marinakis soured amid disputes over recruitment, ultimately paving the way for his dismissal.
