Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown Isn’t a Fan of the Bengals Franchise Tagging WR Tee Higgins!

The Cincinnati Bengals had a decision to make regarding the future of one of their top receivers, Tee Higgins. Even though the Bengals’ already have a a top-5 receiver in Ja’Marr Chase, Higgins is an essential piece to their offense as well. Last season, Higgins caught 73 receptions, had 911 receiving yards, scored 10 touchdowns, while only playing in 12 games particularly due to injuries.

Higgins is an essential part of the Bengals’ offense and we all knew that Cincinnati wasn’t just going to let Higgins walk into the free agency and let other teams take a nab at him. So the Bengals decided to do what they did in 2024; franchise tag him for the second straight year.

When a player is franchise tagged, the other teams in the NFL cannot take a swing at the player and that could be a disadvantage. If a player is looking for a long term contract and commitment from a team in the free agency, getting franchise tagged is not the way to go.

The Detroit Lions’ WR, Amon-Ra St. Brown, who is also some of the best wideouts in the league, is not a huge fan of the Bengals franchise tagging Tee Higgins yet again. Let’s see what he had to say.

What did St. Brown say about Higgins getting tagged?

On St. Brown’s podcast, he talked about the Bengals tagging Higgins for the 2025 season with his brother Equanimeous St. Brown.

“That should be illegal. I don’t give a f*** what nobody says. That’s so f***ed bro.” He continued “Bro I would be so hot, I don’t care what nobody says. It is good money but still… It’s still good but like you gotta get a bigger deal of more guaranteed money like you know, get locked in. Especially if you’ve been balling for the team and you’ve been on for like five/six years. Like damn,” Amon-Ra said.

A franchise tag is only a one-year contract and it is a strategic way for a franchise to retain the player without negotiating the salary nor giving them a long term commitment. Higgins will receive $26.1 Million which will place him 10th in the, highest paid WR in the 2025 season, list.

The question to be asked is, even though Tee Higgins has been with the Bengals for 5 seasons, what and how long will it take for the team to finally give him a long-term deal?
