Alvaro Morata Set for Serie A Return With Surprise Move to Como

Como head coach Cesc Fabregas views Alvaro Morata as an ideal addition to bolster his attack for the 2025/26 campaign.

Former Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is set to return to Serie A, but this time in the colours of ambitious Serie A side Como. The 32-year-old Spaniard endured a difficult 2025 season after captaining Spain to UEFA Euro 2024 glory. However, the veteran striker is now poised to make yet another move in his well-travelled career.

Morata’s latest transfer saga looks close to resolution, with the forward set to leave Galatasaray once all formalities are completed over the Turkish club’s deal for Victor Osimhen. Galatasaray have agreed to trigger Victor Osimhen’s €75 million release clause to secure the striker on a permanent basis following his outstanding loan spell last season.

The Turkish giants will pay €40 million upfront for Osimhen, with the remaining €17.5 million scheduled over the next year. As a result, Morata’s switch to Como is now reportedly considered “all set” after Galatasaray’s deal for Osimhen.

Fresh Start for Morata After Mixed Spells

Following his Euro 2024 success, Morata opted to leave Atletico Madrid for AC Milan ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. A lack of consistency at the San Siro led to a mid-season loan to Galatasaray, where he managed to win the Turkish league title. Despite scoring seven goals in 16 appearances, Galatasaray have decided not to keep him on permanently, while AC Milan have no plans to reintegrate him into their squad.

With options narrowing, a reunion with former teammate Cesc Fabregas at Como has emerged as Morata’s preferred next step. Como head coach Fabregas, who previously convinced players such as Pepe Reina and Sergi Roberto to join him in Italy, views Morata as an ideal addition to bolster his attack for the 2025/26 campaign.

Morata remains determined to secure regular game time ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he hopes to continue leading the line for Spain. Although Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has maintained faith in Morata, the striker’s inclusion for upcoming World Cup qualifiers is no longer guaranteed. De la Fuente has hinted that the decision will ultimately rest with Morata himself.

Morata’s proposed deal at Como is expected to be a season-long loan with his wages shared between Como and AC Milan, a structure both clubs are finalising to ensure the move proceeds smoothly. Returning to Serie A with Como offers Morata a route back to form and visibility, particularly as Spain’s attack builds around young stars Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams. Fabregas’ faith in his former teammate could reignite Morata’s career and boost his World Cup prospects.
