Green averaged 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in the previous season.
The Milwaukee Bucks and guard A.J. Green have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $45 million, ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season opener. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, it is a fully guaranteed contract extension with the franchise that would keep him with them through the 2029-30 season. Green, who remained undrafted in the 2022, has emerged as one of the game’s best shooters.
In the previous season, he played a critical role in bolstering the Bucks’ net rating drastically. He averaged 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists through 22.7 minutes per game. He was shooting 42.9% from the field and had a three-point shooting rate of 42.1%. With the extension, Green is now the only player besides Myles Turner to have a guaranteed contract beyond the 2026-27 season.
Green is now under contract through the 2029-30 season in Milwaukee as the Bucks keep him from entering free agency next summer. The 6-foot-4 guard is one of the elite shooters in the league, shooting 42.7% from 3-point range and 44.9% on catch-and-shoot 3s last season. https://t.co/qcKc9nwF2P

Ever since A.J. Green joined the Bucks, he has shown significant improvements over the years. In his rookie season, he played 35 games and averaged 4.4 points in 9.9 minutes per contest. The number increased to 4.5 points and 11.0 minutes per game in 56 appearances during the 2023-24 season. In the last season’s playoffs, Green scored in double figures in three of the five games in the first round loss to the Indiana Pacers, going 20-for-46 on three-point attempts for 43.5%.
The Milwaukee Bucks have already made it clear that they aim to build one of the best long-range teams in the league next season. In that context, Green has already proved how valuable he will be for the team, and over time he can still flourish himself. He is already seen as one of the best shooters in the NBA, and while the Bucks have their own reasons to extend his contract, it might have something to do with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Whether or not the Greek Freak will remain with the Bucks remains one of the biggest questions of current times. However, it seems that the Bucks aren’t leaving any opportunity to let their biggest star go. A couple of days ago, they signed Alex Antetokounmpo, which marked the first time in the history of the league that three brothers are on active roster contracts with the same team.
With him, and now Green, the Bucks are seemingly sending a clear message to Giannis Antetokounmpo that they are doing everything in their power to put together a strong support cast around him.
