Adam Wharton, just 20 years old, has rapidly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising midfielders since joining Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024. Despite his short time at Selhurst Park, Wharton has become a crucial part of Oliver Glasner’s side, impressing with his exceptional technical control, game intelligence, and ability to dictate tempo in midfield.

A composed and tactically aware player, Wharton thrives in a deep-lying role, orchestrating build-up play while also showing maturity beyond his years in defensive positioning. His calm presence in high-pressure situations has drawn comparisons to elite midfield controllers across Europe.

Tottenham’s Ambition, Palace’s Resistance

Thomas Frank, eager to overhaul Spurs’ engine room ahead of a return to Champions League football, sees Wharton as a key component in restoring balance and control to a side that struggled with structure last season. However, signing the England U21 international will be far from straightforward.

Crystal Palace are adamant that Wharton is not for sale — at least not cheaply. The Eagles value the midfielder at over £80 million and view him as central to their long-term plans, especially after his stellar performances in the latter half of the 2024-25 campaign. Spurs are yet to make a formal offer, but the north London club are reportedly considering whether to test Palace’s resolve with a big-money bid.

Landing Wharton would be a major coup for Tottenham and a statement of intent from Frank and chairman Daniel Levy. While Palace remain firm, Spurs’ continued interest signals their intent to build a squad capable of competing across all fronts — and Wharton may yet become the midfield anchor they desperately need.
