The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is one of the most prestigious conferences in collegiate basketball. Founded in 1953, the ACC is in its 72nd year of competition and has had a total of 15 men’s basketball national championships since 1957.

Over the years, several iconic players have emerged from the conference. From David Thompson to Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan to Dean Smith, the ACC has produced basketball royalty and has claimed multiple titles. Not only this, but at least every three ACC teams enter the NCAA tournament every season since 1980.

Having won three of the last nine NCAA Championships 2015, 2017 and 2019, the ACC has been a synonym for excellence in college basketball.

Having said that, let us have a look at how many teams made it to the NCAA tournament in the 2025 season.

Total ACC Teams in March Madness 2025

A total of four out of 18 ACC teams have made it to the March Madness 2025. Though it is the smallest percentage of conference teams in the field ever since the tournament expanded four decades ago.

These four ACC teams are Duke (East), Clemson (Midwest), Louisville (South) and North Carolina (South). While Duke received the second overall seed and No. 1 seed in the region, Clemson has been seeded No. 5. Louisville and North Carolina have received No. 8 and No. 11 seeds for the 68-team tournament.

Action for the single-elimination tournament will begin from March 18 with the First Four games, followed by First Round matches on March 20 and 21.

ACC Teams and Their Seeds in NCAA Tournament 2025

Here are the four ACC teams that have qualified for March Madness 2025.

Duke, No. 1

Regarded as one of the best teams in men’s college basketball, the Blue Devils got the second overall and the No. 1 seed in the East Region. Duke won the 2025 ACC Men’s Basketball tournament by defeating Louisville 73-62. Making their 47th appearance in the NCAA tournament, the Duke have earned the No. 1 seed for the 15th time. Holding a staggering record of 122-41 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, they have won the national championship in 1991, 1992, 2001, 2010 and 2015.

They will play their first match of March Madness 2025 on Friday, March 21, against the winner of the Mount St. Mary’s-American fixture of the First Four.

Clemson, No. 5

Clemson managed to get the No. 5 seed in the Midwest region despite losing the ACC Championships 2025 semifinals to Louisville 76-73. It will make their 14th appearance in the tournament, and fifth under their head coach Brad Brownell. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games. In the NCAA Tournament, they hold a 12-13 all-time record, which includes an Elite Eight appearance last season.

They will begin the March Madness 2025 campaign by clashing against McNeese on March 20.

Louisville, No. 8

The Louisville, who went down to Duke in the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, are seeded number 8 in the South Region. This is going to be their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019, while 40th appearance overall. The winners of the 1980 and 1986 championship, Louisville clash against Creighton in the First Round on March 20.

North Carolina, No. 11

Carolina, set to make its 54th appearance in the tournament, has been seeded No. 11 in the South Region. The team has made the most appearances in the tournament among its conference. It will begin its campaign by locking horns with San Diego State on Tuesday, March 18 in the First Four.

The winner will advance to the First Round, where it will lock horns with Ole Miss on March 21. Notably, North Carolina holds a 133-50 record in the tournament and was crowned champions six times.
