Despite remaining a top player in the GMs' eyes, Curry loses his longheld title as the league's best point guard

Stephen Curry’s individual impact remains undeniable, as highlighted in the NBA GM Survey for 2024-25. While general managers may not rank the Golden State Warriors as top title contenders this season, Curry’s talent continues to command high regard across the league.

In the survey’s findings, Curry claimed the top spot in several major categories. He was a near-unanimous pick as the league’s best pure shooter, securing 87% of the votes. The four-time NBA champion also led the way as the top player at moving without the ball, receiving an 83% majority in this category.

A new distinction for Curry this year was in leadership, where he was recognized as the NBA’s best leader with 33% of the votes.

Additionally, GMs continue to trust Curry in clutch moments. For the second consecutive year, he was the player GMs most wanted taking a last-second shot, securing 40% of the votes.

Stephen Curry misses out on best point guard spot to Luka Doncic

In a surprising turn of events, Stephen Curry has lost his title as the best point guard in the NBA for the first time since 2015, as revealed by the latest NBA GM Survey. The distinction now goes to Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who garnered 37% of the votes.

Last season, Curry averaged 26.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.5 rebounds while shooting an impressive 45% from the field, 41% from three-point range, and 92% from the free-throw line. Despite Curry’s individual brilliance, the Golden State Warriors struggled during the 2023-24 season, finishing 10th in the Western Conference and missing the playoffs altogether.

In contrast, Luka Doncic had a remarkable season, posting a career-high 33.9 points per game, leading the league in scoring. He also propelled the Mavericks to the NBA Finals for the first time since the Dirk Nowitzki era. The Slovenian came close to a triple-double, averaging 9.8 assists and 9.2 rebounds per game.

The shifting landscape of the point guard position highlights the dynamic nature of the NBA. While Curry’s greatness is still widely acknowledged, Doncic’s ascendance marks a new chapter for the league.
