Paris Saint-Germain 2025–26 Season Preview: Team Updates, New Signings, What to Expect, and More

The 2024–25 campaign was the greatest in Paris Saint-Germain’s history. Luis Enrique’s side stormed to an unprecedented quadruple—Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions, and a long-awaited UEFA Champions League crown after destroying Inter 5–0 in the final. Even a surprise defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final could do little to dim the glow of a record-breaking season. With a squad packed with youth, quality, and European pedigree, PSG now turn the page, aiming to build a dynasty that can dominate France—and the continent—for years to come.

New Signings and Team Updates

Goalkeeper & Defence
Despite lifting four trophies, PSG have not stood still in the market. Their most high-profile defensive addition is Milan Škriniar, who departed in late July for Fenerbahçe (€7m), with Renato Marin arriving on a free from Roma as a reinforcement option in central defence. Marin brings ball-playing ability and tactical versatility, qualities Luis Enrique prizes when PSG look to control matches.

Young I. Mbaye, signed as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain B, has also been promoted to the senior squad. Meanwhile, Gabriel Moscardo has gone on loan to Braga, and Y. Zague has moved on loan with a buy option.

In January, the champions pulled off one of the biggest moves of the year, spending €70 million to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli. His direct dribbling and goal threat were on show in the Club World Cup and will be central to the team’s attack this season.

Midfield
While no headline departures have unsettled the squad’s balance, there has been some re-shaping. Marco Asensio left in February on loan to Aston Villa, and Cher Ndour moved to Fiorentina for €5 million. Those exits clear space for emerging stars like Vitinha, Warren Zaïre-Emery, and Desire Doué to stake their claim.

The midfield remains the engine room of Luis Enrique’s high-possession style. João Neves, now fully integrated after last season’s impressive displays, offers a combination of composure and work rate that PSG lacked in previous European campaigns. With the likes of Nuno Mendes and Willian Pacho able to push forward from defence, expect PSG to continue their relentless territorial dominance.

Attack
Already blessed with an embarrassment of riches in the final third, PSG’s January coup of Kvaratskhelia adds yet another dimension. The Georgian winger’s creativity and flair complement Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, and Kylian Mbappé—assuming the captain remains in Paris for another season.

This is a squad with options to burn. Even without making another blockbuster signing, Enrique has numerous configurations at his disposal: Barcola or Dembélé wide, Kvaratskhelia cutting inside, Vitinha arriving late, and Mbappé leading the line. Few teams in Europe can match that firepower, and the squad’s youth profile suggests this attack could stay together for several more seasons.

What to Expect from Paris St-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain are in uncharted territory. They are not only France’s dominant force but also reigning European champions. Retaining all their major young talents and adding Khvicha Kvaratskhelia signals a determination to build a dynasty rather than settle for one historic season.

Domestically, it is hard to see anyone stopping them. PSG won Ligue 1 last season by 19 points despite frequent squad rotation—no player started more than 27 of their 34 league games—and ended the campaign with a +57 goal difference. They should be overwhelming favourites to win a 12th title in 14 years.

In Europe, the challenge will be different. Opponents will approach PSG with greater respect—and greater motivation. However, the blend of youth, depth, and Champions League-winning experience gives Enrique’s side every chance to go deep again.
