Latest Update on Joel Embiid’s Knee Injury Raises Concerns for Philadelphia 76ers’ in Upcoming Season

The Philadelphia 76ers have had a terrible 2024-25 NBA season, where they finished in 13th spot of the Eastern Conference with a 24-58 win-loss record. The biggest reason behind it was the injury concerns of their star players, Joel Embiid and Paul George. The two best players of the franchise missed a total of 104 games last season. While hopes were high for the next season, and the franchise as well as players wanted a fresh start, it seems that things are not going to get right for them. According to the latest reports, Embiid’s knee is not in good shape, which might affect his participation in the early stages of the training camp.

Embiid, who played only 19 games last season, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April this year. While there were hopes that the surgery would address the lingering damage, the signs of his recovery have been inconsistent. As per reports, there is growing skepticism that the 2023 MVP might miss the start of training camp.

Per Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, “Embiid has struggled getting back on the court this offseason, and there is a growing concern that he will not be ready for the start of training camp, league sources told ClutchPoints.”

Rivals Raise Concerns for Joel Embiid’s Knee Injury

Siegel added in his report that there is a growing concern among rivals about Embiid’s knee health. Not only this, but Siegel stated that the executives regret their decision to extend Embiid’s contract in 2024.

The report suggested, “The common word associated with Embiid and his health this offseason is that things are ‘bad.’ Several rival teams in the Eastern Conference who spoke with ClutchPoints a couple of weeks ago at NBA Summer League confirmed mixed signals coming from the Sixers regarding Embiid’s knee health, with one executive stating that the 76ers are regretting their decision to extend the big man’s contract in 2024.”

Notably, the seven-time All-Star has a history of knee injuries. In the 2023-24 season, he missed a significant number of games due to a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. He underwent surgery, and while Embiid returned to court for a short stint, his performance was clearly impacted. In 39 appearances he made that season, Embiid averaged 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game.

He finished the recent past season at an average of 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
