Jaguars Training Camp – Travis Hunter Snap Count Seems To Suggest Jacksonville Has Its Answer on Where To Play Their Rookie

Heading into the second week of training camp for the Jacksonville Jaguars, it seems that the team has figured out the position where Travis Hunter will play. The Jaguars’ first-round rookie entered the NFL draft earlier this year with plenty of hype surrounding his two-way talent.

Hunter, who had publicly made it clear that he wants to continue playing on both sides of the ball even after joining the NFL, received plenty of criticism. Playing two different positions, and that too as a starter, is considered extremely difficult and rigorous on the body.

That said, the decision now lies with the Jagaurs, who selected Hunter with the second overall pick in this year’s draft. Judging by Hunter’s snap count so far in training camp, the Jaguars seem to have settled on where they would like to play the 2024 Heisman winner.

Travis Hunter’s Dream of a Two-Way Player Still Alive?

As per the practice sessions in Jacksonville, Hunter has been seen taking snaps on both the offense and the defense. In fact, the snap count thus far shows that the Florida native has taken 36 snaps on offense and 47 snaps on defense.

Although Hunter has spent a little more time on the defensive side, his overall snap count remains pretty well-balanced, indicating that the Jaguars seem keen on letting their versatile player take the field on both sides of the ball.

Hunter on Managing Workload and His Critics

During a recent media session, Hunter was asked about how he has been able to manage the workload and whether he has had to put in more hours than his teammates.

The 2024 AP College Football Player of the Year was quick to point out that he is enjoying his role and that the schedule is such that he keeps switching between meetings.

“It’s just a blessing. You know, they actually trust me and they’re putting a lot on my plate, but I just got to go out there and continue to attack the work that they give me. It’s (Schedule) the same as everybody else, but I just got a little bit extra work on my plate and I just continue to switch between the meetings.”

Hunter also spoke about handling the criticism aimed at him for wanting to play both as a receiver and a corner in the NFL. The 22-year-old said that he doesn’t understand it when he is out there showing everyone what he can do. In the end, he just needs to keep quiet and let his work do the talking.

“It’s just the work that you put in, and when they try to criticize, it’s like, I’m already doing all this extra work. You going to keep telling me I can’t do the same thing that I’ve been doing and showing you. So, it’s just that a lot of people just keep downplaying this, but I’m going just be quiet and just go to work.”

If Hunter is able to earn a decent amount of snaps on both sides of the ball in the NFL, he is set to have a remarkable future and career ahead. Though some players have played dual roles in the league previously, the extent to which Hunter is aiming to do so has never been seen before.
