Newcastle United’s Financial Tightrope: Why Anthony Gordon Could Be Offered to Arsenal

Mayur Dedwal

Pressure Forcing Newcastle to Consider a Major Transfer Move

The Summer Transfer Window 2025 is escalating as it enters its final few weeks. From players wanting an exit to coaches trying to fill the voids, negotiations around the football world are breaking down. In the latest of these transfer developments, Newcastle United is speculated to turn over some heavy stones.

The Magpies have reportedly offered Anthony Gordon to Arsenal for £70 million. This move comes in as they want Alexander Isak to stay at the club which might cost some offloading. Isak being pampered with offers from all over the club currently leaves his future hanging as the next season approaches.

Arsenal’s Transfer Coup: Securing the Attacking Future

Newcastle United may face Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) constraints, potentially forcing them to consider offers for key players like Gordon. Despite his recent contract extension to 2030 and a high valuation (£75M–£100M), financial concerns could push Newcastle to listen to bids.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could let Gabriel Martinelli go over the summer. Gordon’s versatility, pace, and ability to play on either wing, make him an ideal candidate to provide competition and depth. After securing Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke’s deal almost signed, Arteta could be presented with a golden opportunity to bag a renowned winger of the Magpies.

Gordon has established himself as a rising star, earning Newcastle’s Player of the Season in 2023-24 and contributing to their 2025 EFL Cup win. With Arsenal’s primary targets leaning opposite, Gordon could prove as a crucial addition as both parties could benefit.

Bayern Münich are interested in Martinelli as per the recent rumours. Arsenal could be open to selling him if it unlocks a deal for one of their transfer targets. With the Brazilian having the potential to bring in over £65 million, Arsenal might change their left attacking side for the upcoming season.

Arsenal’s recent £50M sale of Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace has freed up funds. The Gunners are poised to make a decisive move before the deadline on August 30, 2025. Gordon’s potential arrival could also be influenced by his admiration for Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, a factor insiders suggest might impact his decision.
