Chelsea star Cole Palmer admitted he was “a bit confused” after former U.S. President Donald Trump remained on stage during Chelsea’s Club World Cup trophy presentation. The Blues lifted the trophy in New York after a stunning 3–0 win over Paris Saint-Germain, with Palmer scoring a brilliant brace.
Trump, who watched the final alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, took part in the trophy ceremony at MetLife Stadium. It was expected that the 79-year-old would present the trophy and then step aside. Instead, he stayed on stage throughout the celebrations, surprising both players and spectators.

Speaking after the match, Palmer was visibly amused and slightly baffled by Trump’s lingering presence.
“They wrote us off, but we showed them again,” Palmer said. “I enjoyed those two goals. Sweet. We do work on that sometimes, but when it clicks on the biggest stage? That’s different.
How am I celebrating tonight? Let’s just say… no comment.”
But perhaps the most viral moment came when the 22-year-old was caught on camera whispering ‘What’s he doing?’ to a teammate as Trump continued to stand beside the team during the trophy lift. Many Chelsea players shared Palmer’s bemusement, with some exchanging awkward glances during the extended moment.

Despite the unexpected stage guest, Chelsea’s evening remained a memorable one. Palmer’s dazzling performance capped off the Blues’ dominant run at the expanded Club World Cup in the United States, and the victory marked their second title in the competition.
Trump’s appearance at a major FIFA event also adds to speculation about his renewed interest in global sporting events ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the U.S. will co-host.
But for Chelsea’s young star? The focus was simple: goals, silverware, and an unforgettable celebration — even if it included a surprise political cameo.
