Lamine Yamal Lands in Trouble After Controversial 18th Birthday Celebrations

ADEE announced its intention to pursue legal proceedings against the Barcelona and Spain forward, citing the Spanish law.

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal returned to training with his teammates this week as the Catalan giants kick off preparations for the new season. However, the teenage sensation’s off-field actions have landed him in controversy following reports of his controversial 18th birthday celebrations.

Yamal, who marked his milestone birthday with a lavish party in Garraf, a coastal town near Barcelona, is now facing legal action from Spain’s Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias (ADEE). The association alleged that people with dwarfism were hired as part of the entertainment during the private event.

ADEE To Take Legal Action Against Yamal

ADEE announced its intention to pursue legal proceedings against the Barcelona and Spain forward, citing Spanish law which prohibits any form of entertainment or shows that use people with disabilities to provoke ridicule or demean human dignity. ADEE released a statement on social media announcing its intention to take legal action the Barcelona star.

The statement, posted on X, read

“The Association for People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias denounces the hiring of individuals with dwarfism as entertainment at Lamine Yamal’s birthday party. We will pursue legal and social measures.”

Meanwhile, ADEE president Carolina Puente stressed the seriousness of the incident given Yamal’s high profile and warned that such behavior from influential figures only reinforces the negative stereotypes and increases discrimination. She said,

“It is absolutely unacceptable in the 21st century to use people with dwarfism as mere entertainment or a gimmick at private parties. When a person with social influence participates in these types of situations, the damage is even greater, because it conveys to society – especially to young people – that discrimination is acceptable. We must eradicate the objectification of difference and educate people in respect and equity.”

Lamine Yamal’s Controversial 18th Birthday Party

The party, which took place last Saturday, was attended by approximately 250 guests, including Barcelona players Gavi and Alejandro Balde, as well as notable figures from the music industry such as Bad Gyal, Lola Indigo, Duki, Quevedo, Chimbala, and Morad. Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc was also reportedly present.

According to reports from Cadena SER, mobile phones were prohibited at the event to maintain privacy. However, some images have since surfaced, including one showing Yamal performing alongside Chimbala.

Despite the controversy, Yamal has returned to training with Barcelona as they gear up for the new campaign. Meanwhile, Barcelona have yet to issue an official comment on the matter.
