Ben Shelton Nails Trinity Rodman Trivia on Podcast, Wins ‘Boyfriend of the Year’ Label

Rudra Dubey

The tennis star’s off-court game shines in a viral podcast moment fans can’t stop talking about.

Ben Shelton’s big wins this season haven’t just come on the court. Though he was recently ousted by world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2025, it marked his first-ever quarterfinal run at the grass-court Grand Slam, an impressive milestone in itself.

But off the court, Shelton turned heads in an entirely different way during a recent appearance on the Broadcast Boys podcast at Roland Garros. Asked a string of trivia questions about his girlfriend, professional soccer player Trinity Rodman, Shelton didn’t miss a single one.

Shelton Aces Every Question in Trinity Rodman Trivia Challenge

“Can you ace the Trinity Rodman trivia?” host Lucas Brody challenged. “For sure,” Shelton grinned and then delivered. From Rodman’s middle name (“Rain”) to her favorite author (Colleen Hoover), from her jersey numbers to her high school coach, Shelton recalled every detail with near-surgical precision. Brody, clearly impressed, laughed and dubbed him “the boyfriend of the year.”

Among the fun facts Shelton rattled off: Rodman wears No. 2 for the Washington Spirit because she was the second overall pick in the 2021 NWSL draft and because, as she once put it, “you always want to be number one, but it’s never good enough.” Shelton admitted the reasoning was still a bit confusing, saying, “When she explained it to me, I didn’t really understand. Maybe I’m saying it wrong,” he laughed. “But she was also the number two draft pick.”

Other trivia included Rodman’s three goals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, her 23 goals in 83 club appearances, and her ranking as No. 8 on ESPN FC’s Top 50 list in 2024. It’s not every day you see a tennis player recite deep-cut stats about NWSL history, but for Shelton, it’s clearly personal. The rising star, now a Wimbledon quarterfinalist and world No. 10, has kept most of his relationship private, but glimpses via social media and public moments like this show a couple grounded in support and mutual admiration.

In a world of highlight reels and match stats, Shelton just proved that the most impressive numbers might be the ones he remembers off court.

I’m an academic turned sports writer from Raipur, India, specializing in the NFL, MMA, and tennis at The Playoffs. I previously wrote for Sportskeeda and hold a B.A. and M.A. in History. My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
