Wimbledon Quarterfinal Pits Swiatek’s Consistency Against Samsonova’s Firepower
Eighth seed Iga Swiatek is set to take on 10th seed Liudmila Samsonova in the Wimbledon 2025 quarterfinals, a matchup that pits consistency against quiet firepower. Swiatek has largely cruised through her draw, notching straight-set wins over Polina Kudermetova, Danielle Collins, and 23rd seed Clara Tauson. The only bump was that she dropped a set to Caty McNally in the second round, which the Pole recovered from.
Swiatek has had a solid season, but without any title wins so far. She’s reached the quarterfinals or better in nine tournaments this year, including the semis at the Australian Open, Indian Wells, Madrid, and Roland Garros. She also made the final in Bad Homburg, where she fell to Jessica Pegula. Statistically, she’s been rock solid with 119 aces, 67.5% first-serve points won, and a 51.2% break point conversion rate over 47 matches.
Iga Swiatek becomes the youngest woman to reach 12 Grand Slam Singles Quarterfinals since Maria Sharapova in 2008.

Samsonova reached the final in Strasbourg, the semifinals in Adelaide, and made the last eight in Indian Wells, in her more erratic season. Most recently, she made a semifinal run in Berlin and later withdrew from Bad Homburg due to an abdominal injury. Struggling for rhythm, often falling before the second round. Still, she’s posted strong numbers with 132 aces in 37 matches, a 69% first-serve win rate, and a 45% break point conversion.

Iga Swiatek holds a commanding 4-0 head-to-head lead over Liudmila Samsonova. Their rivalry began in Stuttgart 2022, where Swiatek edged a gritty three-set semifinal. Since then, it has been all one-way traffic. The Pole has won their last three meetings in straight sets, including dominant performances in Dubai and Beijing in 2023 and at the US Open in 2024.
| Year | Event | Round | Winner | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | US Open | Round of 16 | Iga Swiatek | 6–4, 6–1 |
| 2023 | Beijing | Final | Iga Swiatek | 6–2, 6–2 |
| 2023 | Dubai | Round of 16 | Iga Swiatek | 6–1, 6–0 |
| 2022 | Stuttgart | Semifinals | Iga Swiatek | 6–7, 6–4, 7–5 |
| Iga Swiatek | Category | Liudmila Samsonova |
| 4 | Current Ranking | 19 |
| 377-86 | Career W-L | 325-210 |
| 35-11 | YTD W-L | 20-15 |

Swiatek’s 2025 campaign may be titleless so far, but her deep runs and proven Grand Slam temperament give her the edge. With Samsonova still seeking consistency and carrying recent injury baggage, expect the Pole to outlast her in straight sets.
Iga Swiatek’s most dominant win at Wimbledon by a mile.
