NBA’s youngest stars suit up, but what's the real payout behind the scenes?
The 2025 Summer League is set to start this week, with top pro basketball prospects taking part in it. The likes of Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, Bronny James are set to suit up for the respective franchises.
But are these players paid well to participate in the 2025 NBA Summer League? In reality, players don’t receive any additional compensation beyond their existing agreements. Players who are already under NBA contracts continue to earn their agreed salaries without any Summer League bonuses.
There’s no additional payout for these exhibition games, as they’re built into the players’ professional obligations. Unsigned free agents, on the other hand, receive a flat $1,500 payment for participating in the Summer League.

Apart from this, all the players get accommodation facilities including food from their respective franchises. The Summer League offers young players a key platform to showcase their skills, decision-making, and readiness to NBA coaches.
After the Summer League, coaches assess whether their prospects are ready for bigger NBA roles or still need time to develop. If they’re deemed ready, those players are added to the main roster ahead of the new NBA season. If not, they’re assigned to the G-League, where they can adjust to the pro-level pace and physicality.
The 2025 NBA Summer League is set to begin on July 5th with the first match to take place in San Francisco under the California Classic. The California Classic will host six games, with another six scheduled in the Salt Lake City Summer League.
The major action will take place in Las Vegas from July 10. The Las Vegas Summer League will feature all 30 teams and a total of 76 games will be played. Cooper Flagg, Bronny James, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe, Ace Bailey and Khaman Maluach are some of the players to watch out for.
