LeBron James has sparked fresh speculation over his future with the Los Angeles Lakers as rumors of a possible exit heat up. NBA Insiders believe that King James could be looking to move to a new team to boost his championship winning chances.

According to media reports, the 40-year-old doesn’t have confidence in the Lakers winning a ring in the near future. With retirement looming, James will want to add another ring to solidify his legacy in the basketball world going one step ahead of Steph Curry.

LeBron James and Stephen Curry are tied with five championship rings each, fueling the legacy race as retirement nears. Stephen Curry is also nearing his retirement but he has been a Warrior for life. While the Lakers are already bracing themselves to lose their legend. The Slovenian international is set to sign a huge long term deal with the Lakers in the coming weeks. After exercising his $52.6 million player option, LeBron James is reportedly exploring potential options beyond the Lakers.

James’ Exit Now Hinges On Retirement Plans

NBA Insider Bobby Marks has suggested that James has no option but to stay at the Lakers for the time being. He believes that the NBA legend doesn’t have a trade market given his mammoth salary which franchises wouldn’t be able to afford.

Bobby Marks said, “To be sensitive to LeBron, who’s considered one of the greatest of all time, there isn’t (a trade market for him), and here’s why. He is making $53 million this season, the last year of his contract. He’s 40 years old, and I talked to numerous teams yesterday and asked that same question.“

He added, “Would you give up basically the farm, and basically you’d have to give up five players to go get LeBron James for one year? The unanimous answer is no.”

While LeBron James’ retirement remains uncertain, any trade talks will likely hinge on whether he commits beyond this season. Teams will want clarification on his future and signing him for just one season could ward off any interest in the trade.
