Raiders : a change coming for QB 1 ?

Is Antonio Pierce on the verge of a quarterback change ?

After a disappointing 34-18 loss to the Broncos, the Raiders are now grappling with the question of who will take on the starting quarterback role.

Head coach Antonio Pierce has been notably tight-lipped about the decision, sparking speculation about a potential “Raider QB change” ahead of the upcoming game against the Steelers.

When asked directly about the starting QB for next week, Pierce replied, “I don’t know,” adding to the mystery surrounding the Raiders’ QB situation.

During Sunday’s game, Gardner Minshew, the current QB1 for the Raiders, struggled significantly.

Completing only 12 of 17 passes for 137 yards and throwing two interceptions, Minshew was ultimately benched in favor of backup QB Aidan O’Connell.

O’Connell brought a spark to the field, finishing with 94 passing yards and scoring a touchdown, reigniting debate over whether the Raiders should make a QB change moving forward.

Since his standout Week 2 performance against the Ravens, where he threw for 278 yards on 30-of-38 passing, Minshew has struggled to find his rhythm.

His recent games, including yesterday’s sub-140-yard performance, have raised concerns about his consistency and ability to lead the Raiders’ offense. Week 4’s win against the Browns was primarily attributed to a strong defensive effort, leaving many to question if Minshew is the right choice under center.

Aidan O’Connell, who impressed during his rookie season with 2,218 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, was a strong candidate for the starting role before Minshew won the job in training camp.

With a full week of preparation ahead, Pierce may be weighing his options carefully, especially as the Raiders face a formidable Steelers defense next week.
