The 2025-26 NFL season came to a crushing end for the Buffalo Bills as they once again failed to progress further in the postseason. A lot was expected from the Bills this past season, considering Josh Allen was coming off an MVP season the year before.
During the season, the offense was mainly a combination of Allen and his dual-threat ability, as well as running back James Cook, who provided ample support from the backfield. However, the team didn’t look as threatening as in the past seasons, and that ultimately led them to lose the divisional crown to the Patriots after a run of 5 consecutive seasons atop the AFC East.
Despite their 12-5 record in the regular season, the Bills were still expected to have an excellent shot at reaching the Super Bowl since neither the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs, Lamar Jackson-led Ravens, nor the Joe Burrow-led Bengals made the postseason. Unfortunately, though, the Bills fell to the Broncos in the Divisional round, bringing an end to their 2025-26 NFL campaign.

The upcoming season is expected to be somewhat different from the previous few years since the Bills have already made a massive change. Buffalo made the crucial decision of letting go of head coach Sean McDermott and promoted former offensive coordinator Joe Brady to the role.

In the upcoming season, the Bills have one of the toughest strength of schedules, ranking number 8 in the league. Six of their opponents made the playoffs last season, while a few others, such as the Chiefs, Ravens, and Lions, are expected to be more competitive.
The Bills should, in all likelihood, go 5-1 in their division, but the rest of the games won’t be as easy. Given the fact that this will be the first year under Joe Brady and their strength of schedule, the Bills could finish just over 10 wins in the upcoming season.

Buffalo Bills Major Injuries and Concerns going into 2026-27 NFL Season
Injuries
Currently, there are several players on the Bills roster who are dealing with injuries. However, almost everyone is expected to be back healthy for training camp, with recovery timelines ranging from late May to late July.
That said, quarterback Josh Allen will be one to watch out for as he recently underwent foot surgery on a broken bone. Nevertheless, his recovery timeline is stated as 8-10 weeks post-surgery, and he looks good to be back for OTAs in late May.
Tight end Dalton Kincaid is recovering from a PCL, but he is expected to be back on the field, ready to go by training camp in late July. Otherwise, there is not much to worry about concerning injuries for Buffalo.

Roster concerns
As far as the Bills’ roster is concerned, there are two main areas that need to be addressed this offseason. The first and foremost is their wide receiver room, which simply isn’t up to the mark. Buffalo had pinned a lot of its hopes on the young shoulder of Keon Coleman, but his selection hasn’t panned out as expected.
While Khalil Shakir finished the season as the Bills’ top receiver with just 719 yards, tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox actually provided the next best production in the aerial game. Of course, injuries played their part as well, but the Bills need to look for a true WR1 in the market.
On the other side of the ball, the Bills’ defense will need to be improved substantially, as they finished 27th in the league in pass rush win rate (31.4%) and 20th in the league with just 36 sacks. Improving the pass rush will be the number one priority for the Bills on defense this offseason. Moreover, the defensive scheme is also set to undergo a change as McDermott ran a 4-3 scheme, while new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard runs a 3-4 scheme.
Another area of concern for Buffalo is their top free agents, such as starting center Connor McGovern, top linebacker Matt Milano, defensive ends A.J. Epenesa and Joey Bosa, cornerback Tre’Davious White, safety Jordan Poyer, and more.
Buffalo Bills NFL 2026-27 Draft Picks and how they can have an impact on the Total Over/Under Wins Odds
As the NFL Combine has just gotten underway, the Bills would be taking a keen interest in the talent on offer ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. As such, Buffalo has 7 draft picks currently, including one pick in each of the first five rounds. Buffalo doesn’t hold any picks in the 6th round, but they do have two picks (220 and 228) in the seventh round from the Jets and Cowboys, respectively.
Since they made it to the divisional round last season, the Bills first round pick will be much lower down the order at number 26 overall. In round 1, Buffalo would do well to draft a top wide receiver prospect such as Texas A&M’s KC Concepcion or Washington’s Denzel Boston, as per several mock drafts.
The other route the Bills could take is to draft a top pass rusher or a safety to bolster their defensive woes. With limited draft capital and selections near the end of the rounds, the Bills may find it tough to get the top-rated players in their positions of need, and that may not help much in the overall Over/Under win odds.
Having said that, sometimes a couple of hits in the draft is all it takes for a side to change its fortunes as the NFL is one league where changes occur every season.
