Packers vs Eagles Week 10 Monday Night Football – 4 Key Takeaways As Philadelphia Escapes Defensive Showdown in Green Bay!

Devavrat Kulkarni

The Eagles take control of the NFC as the number 1 seeds with a win over the Packers on MNF!

It was another classic matchup during Week 10’s Monday Night Football (MNF) as the Philadelphia Eagles traveled to the cold and windy Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers came into the game atop the NFC North, holding a 5-2-1 record, while the Eagles’ 6-2 record meant they controlled the NFC East. Despite being a highly anticipated game, neither offense could muster much as the final score ended with the Eagles walking away with a 10-7 victory for their seventh win of the season

Lackluster First Half Ends Scoreless as both teams struggle on offense

In a game that was expected to be dominated on the defensive side of the ball did not disappoint on that aspect. Both teams got off to extremely slow starts, and the first half ended with nothing to show on the scoreboard for either team.

In fact, both teams took turns punting the ball, with a couple of drives ending in lost fumbles. The Eagles had the first fumble of the game, coming in the first quarter after a long 16-play, 77-yard drive. The Packers fumbled towards the end of the second quarter, ending any chance of getting on the board for their first points of the game.

Strong Showing by both defenses

If there was any positive to take for both teams from the Week 10 MNF game, it was the fact that both teams had an amazing night defensively. By the end of three quarters of play, the Eagles held a slender 3-0 lead, which just goes to show how effective both defenses were on the night.

In the end, both teams finished with less than 300 yards of offense; the Packers were restricted to just 263 total yards, while the Eagles had 295 yards worth of offense. Green Bay went 5/13 on third downs and 1/3 on fourth down conversions, whereas Philly was 7/16 on third downs and 0/2 on fourth downs.

The Packers forced 5 punts and recovered one fumble, while the Eagles had 3 sacks, 5 forced punts, and recovered 2 fumbles.

Packers vs Eagles Comes Alive in the Fourth Quarter

It took all the way till the fourth quarter for both offenses to finally get going. After the Eagles went into the final quarter with a 3-0 lead, Philadelphia was able to extend the lead to 10-0 following a couple of well-executed pass plays, first the Saquon Barkley, which went for 41 yards, followed by a 36-yard touchdown grab by DeVonta Smith.

After doing absolutely nothing on offense for the first three quarters, Green Bay finally answered with a strong drive of its own. An 11-play, 75-yard drive ended with Josh Jacobs powering his way to the endzone to cut the deficit to 10-7.

Packers Miss Key Players on Offense

One of the key aspects of the Packers’ offensive struggles tonight could be attributed to missing multiple important pieces on that side of the ball. Green Bay’s number one tight end, Tucker Kraft, is out for the season with an ACL injury that he suffered last week against the Panthers. Heading into tonight’s game, Kraft was the leading pass-catcher on the Packers’ offense.

Green Bay also dealt with injuries in the wide receiver room. Rookie wideout Matthew Golden missed the game due to a shoulder injury. Their top receiver this season, Romeo Doubs, left the game at a crucial time with just 6 minutes left due to a chest injury, handing the Packers another devastating blow.

Packers vs Eagles Game Stats

Statistics-wise, this game didn’t have any standout performances. Apart from a few plays here and there, it was a scrappy game from start to finish.

Jordan Love finished with just 177 passing yards with no touchdowns, while Josh Jacobs had a 75-yard, one-touchdown night on the ground. On the other side, Jalen Hurts threw for just 183 yards and a touchdown, while Saquon Barkley contributed with 61 yards rushing.

With the loss on MNF, the Packers slip to 5-3-1 and, with that, now fall to the number 7 seed in the NFC playoffs picture. A win would have had them move up to 2nd in the NFC seedings. As for the Eagles, tonight’s win sees them move to 7-2 on the season and find themselves as the current number 1 seeds in the NFC.
