One of Madrid’s greatest midfielders, Luka Modric is set to bid adieu to the club. And he is on the verge of beginning a new chapter with Italian giants AC Milan. The 39-year-old Croatian maestro has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to join the Rossoneri. He will join the ranks after Real Madrid’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign concludes this summer.

Despite turning 39, Modric can still play for some good more years. His departure from Real Madrid after a remarkable 13-year spell is not his retirement. According to journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and other sources, Modric has postponed all formalities with AC Milan until after his commitment to Real Madrid ends mid-July.

Why is Luka Modric Choosing AC Milan?

Reportedly, talks with AC Milan have reached an advanced stage. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Modric has chosen to delay official confirmation and his medical out of loyalty to Real Madrid. The contract is expected to be a short one – a one-year deal with an optional second year based on performance.

Milan is more than just a new challenge for the Croatian. Reportedly, the decision carries emotional weight. Modric has long idolized Zvonimir Boban, the Croatian legend who starred for the Rossoneri in the 1990s. Now friends, Boban’s influence and Modric’s childhood admiration played a pivotal role in the midfielder’s decision.
