The Cleveland Browns (1-2) will travel on the road to face the Detroit Lions (2-1) at Ford Field. The Lions are coming off a 38-30 road win over the Ravens, where Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combined for 254 rushing yards and four TDs. Jared Goff has thrown for 761 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception, powering a top-five offense (3rd in the league). Detroit’s defense, fresh off seven sacks on Lamar Jackson, now faces Cleveland’s elite pass rush, led by Myles Garrett’s four sacks and 16 total tackles, which tops PFF’s defensive line rankings.

Cleveland’s defense, allowing just 204 yards per game, stifled Green Bay in a 13-10 upset last week, aided by special teams. However, Joe Flacco’s passing struggles and a shaky offensive line face a tough test against Detroit’s 11th-ranked rush defense, making this game a potential thriller.

Myles Garrett Taunts Lions Morton as Browns D-Line Looms Large

After back-to-back week wins against the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens, Lions’ offensive coordinator John Morton felt good about their wins and said the Browns’ run defense is good, but is yet to see a challenge like what the Lions bring to the table. “Haven’t seen run game like the Lions,” said Morton, letting the Browns know that he’s not backing away from the challenge.

When Garrett was let known of those comments, he immediately fired back saying, “He’s entitled to his opinion. He hasn’t seen a defensive front like ours… We have to see who’s right. I think it’ll be a battle of ideologies and I think out DC (defensive coordinator) also has some things to say and we have to be the ones to put it into action.”

Will the Detroit Lions’ Run Game Be Effective Against Myles Garrett and the Browns?

As previously stated, the Browns’ defensive line is the best in the league currently, topping the PFF charts, and it has not been easy for any team to score against them. In the last three weeks, Browns have only allowed 57.3 rushing yards allowed on average with only 1 rushing TD allowed so far.

They have the best rushing defense and it is not going to be easy for Detroit, especially given the fact that they won against teams like the Baltimore Ravens (ranked 30th in rushing defense), and the Chicago Bears (ranked 26th), making them some of the worst rush defensive teams in the league this season.
