Aaron Rodgers Passes Former Mentor Brett Favre, Occupies Fourth Place on List of Most Touchdowns

Rodgers is now just 29 passing touchdowns behind Peyton Manning in third spot!

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers reached yet another milestone in his illustrious NFL career on Sunday after he threw his 509th touchdown pass. In doing so, Rodgers has now moved past his former teammate and mentor Brett Favre into fourth position on the list of most touchdown passes in the history of the NFL.

During the Steelers’ week 3 game against the New England Patriots, Rodgers found wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in the endzone in the second quarter for his 509th career touchdown. Last week against the Seahawks, Rodgers tied Favre with his 508th career touchdown, but that game ended in a 31-17 loss.

Yesterday, however, the veteran quarterback and his offense performed at a higher level as Pittsburgh came through on the road 21-14. Rodgers was once again in the thick of things late in the fourth quarter as he found Calvin Austin III for the game-winning touchdown. With the second touchdown of the game, Rodgers now has 510 passing touchdowns from 244 career games in the NFL.

Moving to the fourth position, Rodgers has now bumped Favre (508) into the fifth position on the all-time leaders for passing touchdowns. The three players ahead of Rodgers are Tom Brady, who has 649 touchdowns from 335 games, Drew Brees with 579 touchdowns from 286 games, and Peyton Manning with 539 touchdowns from 265 games.

Whenever Rodgers has remained healthy, he has averaged north of 30 touchdowns per season. Considering that, the 4-time NFL MVP has a good chance of eclipsing another legend, Peyton Manning, by the end of this regular season. As things stand currently, Manning is just 29 touchdowns ahead of Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers’ Response on Surpassing Brett Favre

Following the game, Aaron Rodgers was interviewed and asked about what it meant to pass Brett Favre, to which the veteran quarterback kept things simple.

“It means I’m old, I’ve been playing a long time.”

Moreover, Rodgers was more excited about the way the Steelers’ defense showed up for each game. While acknowledging that the offense, including himself, needs to iron out a few things, he was full of praise for the defense for keeping the team in the game yesterday.

Up next for the Steelers is a week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. The Vikings are also coming off an impressive win against the Bengals, and both teams head into the week 4 matchup with identical 2-1 records.
