‘I’m Really Not Worried about It’ – Ben Johnson and Tom Brady See Eye to Eye on Conflict of Interest Ahead of the Bears and Raiders Week 4 Clash

Tom Brady's dual role of minority Raiders owner and FOX Sports commentator raises concerns!

The Chicago Bears will be taking on the Las Vegas Raiders in their week 4 matchup scheduled to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas next week.

However, even before the attention turns towards the players and the teams, there is a rising concern amongst the NFL community about Tom Brady and his conflict of interest.

Tom Brady Conflict of Interest

The seven-time Super Bowl Champion is currently working for FOX as part of the commentating team, which has caused concerns among fans and the media since he is also a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders

As part of his duties for FOX Sports, Brady conducts pre-game interviews with the players and the team’s coaching staff, which some within the NFL community perceive as an unfair advantage. The notion is that Brady can use this information and relay it to the Raiders directly.

Ben Johnson Dismisses Unfair Advantage

Upon questioning Brady’s conflict of interest and how he views it, Ben Johnson ridiculed the idea of such information being of any valuable use to Vegas. As per the Chicago Bears’ head coach,

“I’m really not worried about it. I mean, we change week to week in terms of what we do schematically, he’s gonna be able to turn on the tape and see what everyone else in the world is seeing right now, personnel-wise wise really the same thing,” Said Johnson.

The Bears’ head coach further added a bit of humor as he joked about how the conversation between him and Brady would not go.

“It’s not like I’m gonna sit down with him and tell hey, don’t do this to Caleb Williams, or you might get it. There’s not gonna be like any trade secrets that are gonna be exchanged, but I just really don’t think it’s that big of a deal to be honest with you.”

The Bears’ coach also went on to address the fact that he likes Tom (Brady) and that the pair have a really good relationship. For his part, Brady reacted to Johnson’s words on social media through the Sports Illustrated Instagram post, which read, “Thank you for some common sense! Finally a smart coach speaks up!”

What Led to the Uproar?

The whole conflict of interest line of thought really gained traction during the Raiders’ week 2 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. During the game, Brady could be seen with a headset in the Raiders’ coaching booth, which immediately raised red flags.

The questions that came to the forefront revolved around how much the NFL legend is involved in the gameday operations, and also on whether or not he should be allowed to conduct pre-game interviews going forward.

Meanwhile, apart from reacting to Johnson’s statement on the matter, Brady has not made any further comments, and the NFL has also clarified that Brady had not broken any rules. In conclusion, it seems that this particular topic at hand will not lead to any changes, and Brady should be able to continue his role at FOX, all the while maintaining his minority ownership with the Raiders.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
