Beatriz Haddad Maia vs. Dayeon Back Preview, Prediction, and Betting Odds for WTA Korea Open 2025 Round – 1

Rudra Dubey

Haddad Maia faces home favorite Back in Korea Open first round.

Sixth seed Beatriz Haddad Maia will begin her Korea Open event against local wild card Dayeon Back in the first round. Haddad Maia’s singles season has been uneven, marked by a semifinal in Strasbourg and a quarterfinal in Bad Homburg, but also offset by early-round disappointments. Her US Open run ended in the fourth round against Amanda Anisimova. Still, the numbers highlight her lefty firepower with 97 aces across 38 matches, a 64.7% success rate behind her first serve, and 41.4% conversion on break points. Where the Brazilian has truly stood out, however, is in doubles, lifting the Nottingham title alongside Laura Siegemund and continuing to find consistent success in that format.

Back, meanwhile, is making her annual home-soil appearance as a Korea Open wild card. She debuted at the tournament in 2022 and has earned a spot through the same route in 2023 and 2024. The 23-year-old has put together a solid resume on the ITF Circuit, with nine singles and nine doubles titles. This year, she’s reached finals at two Nonthaburi events (W35 and W15) and captured titles in Daegu and Montasir. Once again, Seoul provides her with her first WTA main-draw test of the season, as it has in years past.

Back will have the home crowd behind her and could test Haddad Maia with fearless shot-making, but the Brazilian’s experience and lefty power should ultimately carry her through.

But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
