The second day of the 2025 edition of EuroBasket is already in history. On Thursday, 12 more teams made their debuts in the biggest continental basketball tournament in the world, thus inaugurating groups C and D. After Dennis Schroder, Lauri Markkanen and Nikola Jokic stole the limelight on the first day, there was also no shortage of NBA stars in this round.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece started their campaign with a victory. Luka Doncic and Slovenia started on the wrong foot, falling to one of the hosts. Check out the results from the second day of EuroBasket below!

Opening Group C with an impressive victory over the reigning tournament champion? Not bad! Georgia surprised and overcame the Spanish in the second half to emerge with a positive result. Forcing turnovers and demonstrating excellent collective play, the team relied on an inspired Sandro Mamukelashvili. The Toronto Raptors’ new signing in the offseason, the power forward scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists. Orlando Magic center Goga Bitadze contributed 15 points and seven rebounds.
For Spain, Juancho Hernangomez, who played in the NBA and is now with Panathinaikos, led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds. Memphis Grizzlies power forward Santi Aldama finished with 12 points in 24 minutes.
Everyone expected a strong performance from Deni Avdija in Israel’s debut. The Portland Trail Blazers forward delivered, with 20 points and nine rebounds. However, center Roman Sorkin stole the show, with 31 points and 68% shooting. Iceland, which should only fight to avoid being the worst team at EuroBasket, actually gave their opponents a hard time, especially thanks to point guard Elvar Fridriksson’s 17 points.
Even with key absences like Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert, France left no room for misfortune and overcame the underdog in its debut. Besides allowing just 64 points, the dominant French defense forced 18 turnovers, stealing ten balls, and scoring 19 points off turnovers. Thus, the double-digit lead appeared in the first half and extended even further when the three-pointers started falling in the second half.
Bilal Coulibaly of the Washington Wizards, named player of the game , had 12 points, seven rebounds, and two of the team’s four blocks. Elie Okobo, formerly of the Phoenix Suns and now with Monaco, also scored 12 points. Finally, Guerschon Yabusele of the Philadelphia 76ers and Zaccharie Risacher, the first pick in the 2024 draft by the Atlanta Hawks, scored 11 and ten points, respectively.
Bosnian fans turned out in good numbers at Spyros Kyprianou Arena and witnessed a comfortable victory over the home side. Physically superior, Bosnia dominated the paint battle, scoring 42 points and allowing only 20. Currently with the Utah Jazz and with several years of NBA experience, Jusuf Nurkic led the way with 18 points, six rebounds, and two steals.
For the Cypriots, making their EuroBasket debut, Konstantinos Simitzis stood out with 22 points and six rebounds. And if the victory didn’t come, winger Darral Willis Jr. at least gifted the fans with a beautiful dunk over the defense.
The Italian national team fought valiantly but, unable to find answers against Giannis in the paint, succumbed to Greece in a match also held in Cyprus. Unsurprisingly, the Milwaukee Bucks star was a true force of nature, finishing the match with 31 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a 70% shooting percentage from the field.
No other Greek player reached double figures in scoring. Kostas Antetokounmpo and Thanasis Antetokounmpo also attended the family celebration. The former stood out with a beautiful block, while the latter ended up on the wrong side of a Saliou Niang dunk. Nicolo Melli led the Italians with 15 points.
Closing out the second day, Polish fans packed Spodek Arena in Katowice, not only to support the national team, but also for the opportunity to see star Luka Doncic up close. By the end of the first quarter, the point guard had already scored 14 points. However, the home team still held the lead, as they were savvy on the perimeter.
The Los Angeles Lakers star performed some of his magic, leading the game in scoring with 34 points. He also dished out nine assists, had five steals, and fought ( almost literally ) hard for the win. However, his effort wasn’t enough against a solid Polish performance led by Jordan Loyd. The shooting guard had 32 points, hitting seven of his eight three-point attempts.
