The Story That Keeps Giving – Jerry Jones Takes Shots at Micah Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta

Jerry Jones had reportedly offered to make Parsons the highest-guaranteed defender in the league

The Micah Parsons contract saga continues to drag along with a number of twists and turns along the way. It seems that almost every other day, something new comes to the forefront, and with less than two weeks to go for the regular season, something really has to give.

Both, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, and the star pass rusher himself, Micah Parsons, have acknowledged that contract talks have hit a wall and no communication has taken place for a long time.

In the meantime, Parsons continues to hold-in during training camp, being physically present and supporting his teammates but not taking any part in the on-field activities. He has also been away from the action in the preseason. In fact, things between the owner and the player have been at a standstill ever since Parsons requested a trade in early August.

Jones Clarifies His Stance on Michael Irvin’s Podcast

Jerry Jones, who appeared on the Michael Irvin podcast, tried to clear his side of the issue at hand. As per the Cowboys’ owner, he held negotiations with Parsons in the past, and according to his offer, Parsons would become the highest-guaranteed player on defense in the league.

“He should, though, in my mind, because he’d be the highest guaranteed player ever on defense with what he’s been offered.”

According to Jones, he even agreed to accommodate several of Parsons’ requests during the negotiation talks, and when they were getting the contract ready to send it to his agent (David Mulugheta), they were told by Mulugheta to “stick it up our a**.”

“When we wanted to send the details to the agent, the agent told us to stick it up our a**. Micah and I talked, and then we were going to send it over to the agent, and we had our agreements on term, amount, guarantees, everything,” Said Jones. “We were going to send it over to the agent, and the agent said, ‘Don’t bother because we’ve got all that to negotiate.’ Well, I’d already negotiated. I’d already moved off my mark on several areas. So, the issue, very frankly, is we’ve had the negotiation in my mind. And the agent’s trying to get his nose in it right now.”

Is There Any Truth to Jones’ Allegations?

Irrespective of what Jones said on Irvin’s podcast, not many people are buying his side of the story. NFL insider Jordan Schultz has come out in support of Parsons by not only criticizing Dallas’ owner but also alluding to his behavior as childish.

“The Cowboys’ situation with Micah Parsons isn’t hard to understand. Parsons pays an agent to handle his contract. Jerry Jones doesn’t want to talk to the agent. Parsons has said, “Talk to my agent.” Jerry still won’t do it. Just childish behavior.”

And while no one will know just exactly what transpired between the Cowboys’ owner, Parsons, and Mulugheta, former NFL safety turned analyst, Ryan Clark claims to have asked the latter if what Jones is accusing him of has any merit.

He laughed, Clark said, “I’ve never used that phrase in my life,” “So for anyone who is reporting that, for Jerry Jones saying that, this is false. This never happened. This is just another public way to make this situation, which is already ugly, even uglier.”

Eventually, the friction between the two parties continues to grow with no end in sight. With the regular season just around the corner, there is still no clarity on what the future holds. Will the two sides reach an agreement soon? Will Parsons play in the regular season if there is no more progress? And will Jones back off and renegotiate with Parsons’ agent? So many questions, so little time.
