Liverpool Cool Interest in PSG’s Bradley Barcola Amid Ngumoha Emergence

Liverpool have opted against pursuing Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, despite ongoing speculation following the summer departure of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old was a regular starter early last season but saw his minutes reduced after PSG signed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli in January. Kvaratskhelia, along with Desire Doué, was preferred in key fixtures, including the Champions League final, while Barcola’s involvement dwindled during the Club World Cup. Since joining from Lyon in 2023, the French international has contributed 26 goals and 30 assists in 103 appearances.

Barcola Not the Option on Left Wing

Liverpool had been linked with strengthening their left-sided attacking options, but club sources indicate that a move for Barcola is not on the agenda. Management believe that signing a player in his position could obstruct the development of teenage winger Rio Ngumoha, who has been one of the standout performers in Arne Slot’s first pre-season in charge.

Ngumoha, only 16, impressed with two goals and two assists in four friendly appearances, earning himself a spot in the senior squad for the upcoming campaign. His rapid progress has altered Liverpool’s summer recruitment priorities, with resources potentially being directed towards other areas of the pitch.

One ongoing pursuit is Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. Liverpool saw a £110 million offer rejected earlier this month but have maintained interest, particularly as the Sweden international has made it clear he does not wish to play for Newcastle again. His frustration stems from an unfulfilled promise of contract talks, with former Newcastle director Amanda Staveley having left before discussions began. New sporting director Paul Mitchell has since ruled out a new deal, citing financial regulations.

Despite Newcastle’s reluctance to sell, Isak’s determination to move could reopen negotiations before the transfer window closes. For now, however, Liverpool’s stance on Barcola appears settled, with faith placed in Ngumoha to provide depth and competition on the left wing.
