The Philadelphia Eagles played their first preseason game against the Bengals last Thursday, coming out on top in a high-scoring 34-27 encounter. But while that was a good start for the reigning Super Bowl Champions, an injury scare to their first-team left guard is a concern.

On Sunday evening, the Eagles were hit with some tough news as left guard and 3-time Pro-Bowler, Landon Dickerson, went down during practice.

Exactly what happened during the drill is not yet known, but as Philadelphia was preparing for one of their last practice series, Dickerson fell to the ground in what appears to be an injury to his lower right leg.

The veteran guard was unable to get up or put weight on his leg, and had to be helped back to the sideline. He was, however, able to walk off the field with the help of assistance from trainers. Later, Dickerson was seen sitting at the front of the cart as he was taken inside for further evaluation.

Since the incident, there has not been any further update on the same, with head coach Nick Sirianni’s latest communication being that Dickerson was still being evaluated.

Dickerson’s Importance to the Eagles’ O-Line

Dickerson, who was selected by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft has become a crucial member of the highly competent Eagles’ O-line. His stellar play landed him a 4-year deal worth $84 million in 2024, which made him the highest-earning guard in the league at that time.

Dickerson has grown into the starting role and has been essential to the Eagles’ offensive success alongside tackles Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, and center Cam Jurgens. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl in all three seasons after his rookie year, and was also one of the pillars of the team during their run to the Super Bowl last season.

The Eagles will be expected to provide an update on Dickerson within the upcoming days. For now, however, there is no way of telling the extent of his injury and what that means for Philadelphia’s season ahead. The fact that Dickerson was able to walk with assistance is the best possible sign at the moment.
