Chelsea completed a brilliant second-half comeback against Real Betis to win the UEFA Conference League 2024/25 on Wednesday. After conceding in the first 10 minutes, Enzo Maresca and his side managed to score four past Real Betis in the final half or so of the game.

Enzo Fernandez after opening the scoring lit things up for the Blues as Nicolas Jackson minutes later. Jadon Sancho who joined from Manchester United on loan scored the crucial third goal coming off the bench for Chelsea. Cole Palmer put up yet another man-of-the-match performance as he also sealed the UECL 2024/25 with the fourth goal in injury time.

Enzo Maresca Confirms Uncertainty in Sancho’s Future at Chelsea

Sancho joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United in January 2025. Having a rough time at Old Trafford, the 25-year-old has had arguably better days with Maresca since joining from Manchester United. Sancho started six games for Chelsea in the UECL this season scoring two and four assists.

When asked about Sancho’s plans with Chelsea, Maresca had a mixed reply as he prolonged the verdict on the decision. Talking about how could things go for Sancho in the coming few days, Maresca in his post-match interview said,

“We are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year. If we finish fourth it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon. It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down.”

A £5 million break clause exists in Sancho’s loan deal, giving Chelsea the option to terminate the agreement and prevent a permanent transfer. However, if the Blues are to secure Sancho, he could be available for a fee of around £25 million this summer.

West Ham striker Michael Antonio also spoke about how Chelsea should sign Sancho. Speaking on the subject post-match, Antonio said: “I think Chelsea should sign Jadon Sancho. He has been an important factor to the squad, and in parts of the season he has been the catalyst for the team.”

Sancho since starting his career with Borussia Dortmund in 2017 has dipped a little. With a lack of consistency and game time at Manchester United, the winger has flourished under Maresca and co since his loan move. Moreover, the Englishman could also head back to BVB should he part ways with Manchester United.

Being bought for big money, Sancho was the second loan player from Manchester United after Antony to feature in the UECL 2024/25 final. Adding his name to silverware he also joins a long list of players who taste glory after leaving the Old Trafford.
