NBA Playoffs Timberwolves vs Thunder Game 4: OKC Thunder Strikes Back to Stretch Their Lead to 3-1 in WCF Series

Oklahoma City made a solid comeback after a 42-point blowout loss in Game 3. The Thunder edged out the Timberwolves 128-126 in Game 4 to take a commanding 3-1 lead in Western Conference Finals. The Top seed in the West will look to wrap up the series on Wednesday at their home-court matchup.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led all the scorers with a playoff career-high 40 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists. Jalen Williams added 34 points and Chet Holmgren had 21, including 7 rebounds. Nickeil Alexander-Walker was top-scorer for the Wolves with 22 points off the bench and star performer, Anthony Edwards managed 16 points.

Oklahoma City Put Minnesota on the Verge of Elimination with Crucial Road Win

Minnesota entered Game 4 with their second largest playoff victory but couldn’t sustain it in Monday’s matchup. The Thunder outscored the Wolves 37-30 in the opening quarter and held a eight-point lead at halftime. The early deficit proved costly for the Timberwolves and their second-half heroics couldn’t help them.

DiVincenzo’s consecutive three-pointers helped Minnesota to tie the game at 79 points in the third quarter but Oklahoma City pulled it back and regained the lead ahead of final quarter. The Thunder also set a franchise record with most defensive rebounds in a playoff game.

In fourth quarter, it was a nail-biting drama down the stretch. Both teams were going hard offensively and scored a combined 79 points. Homgren’s dunk helped Thunder to take a nine-point lead in the midway of the final period. The Wolves went on a 9-4 run to cut the deficit to four points and later, they made a it a two-point game with 9 seconds left. Gilgeous-Alexander made three free throws and Naz Reid dropped two free throws to keep the game going. In the end, Thunder survived a late scar and claimed crucial victory.

The Timberwolves shot 51.2% from the field and 43.9% from the 3-point line but committed 21 turnovers. Minnesota missed six free throws in the game and it proved costly in the end. Now, the pressure is mounting on the Timberwolves and they are on the verge of elimination. Overcoming a 3-1 deficit in conference finals isn’t an easy thing.
