Richard Gasquet set to take the court for his final Roland Garros

In an all-French round 1 battle at the 2025 French Open, 23-year veteran Richard Gasquet goes up against 23-year-old Terence Atmane. This will be a match played between the two ends of the spectrum, with Gasquet, a long-time local favorite with plenty of experience at this level, taking on a younger and upcoming player looking to make his mark at the highest level of the sport

Richard Gasquet vs Terence Atmane Preview

Gasquet, who was once a force on the men’s tour, having gone toe-to-toe with some of the legends of the game, has fallen off for quite some time now.

A consistent player with the ability to surprise even the best players on tour till 2018 has been struggling to win titles, with his last tour title coming in January 2023. With just 7 matches this year, Gasquet has a losing 3-4 record and will now walk away from tennis after this year’s Roland Garros, having already announced his decision to retire.

Atmane, on the other hand, has played mostly in challenger tournaments with no matches thus far at this level in 2025. Overall, he holds just a 4-10 record on tour, making this first round matchup against Gasquet quite a difficult proposition. He does, however, have a couple of titles in 2025 coming from the Challenger events in Busan and Guangzhou.

Richard Gasquet vs Terence Atmane Head-to-Head Record

This first round match between the Frenchmen will be their first-ever head-to-head meeting, as their paths have never crossed on tour yet. Atmane has not played too many matches at this level of the sport, while Gasquet’s participation has taken an overall dip in recent years.

Richard Gasquet vs Terence Atmane Career Comparison

While Gasquet is ranked 166 in the world currently, he made it as high as number 7 in the world, even when playing in an era of greats such as the big 4 and many more. He has 16 titles to his name and has given many top players a run for their money.

Atmane is still trying to prove himself with the big-name players on the circuit. With no titles and just 14 matches at the top tier of the sport, there is plenty more to come from the young 23-year-old.

Richard Gasquet vs Terence Atmane French Open 2025 Prediction

Gasquet has reached the end of his glorious career spanning over 23 years. With injuries and age catching up with him, the Frenchman is ready to bid adieu to the sport and probably does not have much left in the tank for his last hurrah. Nevertheless, the emotions of his final Roland Garros could propel him towards an inspired performance.

Atmane, the much younger and fresher of the two players, hasn’t shown much at the topmost level of the game, but if he can find a way to tire out his opponent, it will be easier to come through with a win.

Prediction: Atmane in four sets

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
