The NBA’s GOAT debate has been a topic of conversation for a while. Some fans, players, and media personalities claim that Michael Jordan is the GOAT, whereas many players from the current generation believe LeBron James is the NBA’s GOAT. When you ask fans of Jordan, they’ll claim that MJ was 6-0 in the NBA Finals, and never let a Finals series get to a Game 7. Meanwhile LeBron fans will back him up in the GOAT conversations by saying that he was the “Chosen one,” coming out of high school, and delivered despite all the pressure from across the globe. The GOAT debate is a rabbit hole that never seems to end, but no matter where you rank these two individuals, one thing’s for sure; Both Jordan and James are one of the greatest players of all time. The GOAT debates are hypotheticals and we cannot really tell who’s the greater player as they played in different generations.

However, recently, Michael Jordan’s agent, David Falk, made some comments critiquing LeBron James’ career, which fired up an immediate response from James’ agent, Rich Paul, adding more fuel to the GOAT debate. Let’s find out what happened.

David Falk’s Controversial Comments on LeBron James

David Falk, Michael Jordan’s former agent, ignited the GOAT debate by critiquing LeBron James. Falk claimed that if Jordan “had cherry-picked what teams he wanted to be on and two other superstars, he would’ve won 15 championships.”

This comment by Falk has gotten mixed reviews from the fans, and media personalities so far. His comments underscore a traditionalist view where Jordan had more of a “beat them,” mindset, opposite LeBron’s “Join them,” or “recruit,” approach towards free agency. This comment quickly got a reply from LeBron James’ longtime agent Rich Paul, and here is what he said.

Rich Paul Fired Back Immediately After Falk’s Comments

Rich Paul, LeBron James’ longtime agent, came into the ‘King’s’ defense and here is what he had to say;

“Interesting to use the term ‘Cherry Picking,’ coming from someone who literally had John Thompson, Dean Smith, and Mike Krzyzewski supporting his business. Putting superstar athletes in the lap.” Paul said. “I just thought that was very unfair and a little beneath David Falk… The ‘cherry pick,’ I’ve discussed that. The two other superstars, Michael never had to leave. Michael has never been the underdog in any (NBA) Finals. Not one time. Michael never had a 24 hour, 365 news cycle. He never had shows built strictly to criticize him. People made millions of dollars criticizing LeBron, that was their entire job. When you talk about the difficulty of it all, Michael played for Dean Smith. Michael played for Phil Jackson. And Michael had Jerry Krause.”

The GOAT debate will likely never end anytime soon, and one thing is for certain; both Jordan and LeBron are one of the greatest players we’ve ever seen, but they also had their flaws too. When we talk about Jordan, many argue that he played in an era where there were six expansion teams and the players were not as skilled as they are today. Meanwhile for LeBron, many claim that he’s not the GOAT because he lost 6 NBA finals, and one of them was against the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, where the Miami Heat were the heavy favorites to win it all.
