WATCH: Fan Ditches Marlins Jersey Mid-Game to Celebrate with Shohei Ohtani

The Dodgers (25-12) rolled into Miami and, predictably, blew the Marlins (14-22) out of their own building. Final score? 10-1. Crowd? Barely there. Only 13,635 people showed up at loanDepot park, which, if you’re keeping track, is just a smidge above the team’s dismal 12,676 average, good for 28th in MLB attendance. But among the few who did show, one fan left with his allegiance in tatters, and possibly a new favorite player.

It happened in the sixth inning. Shohei Ohtani, already torching baseballs this season, ripped a triple to right off Marlins righty Valente Bellozo. It was a near inside-the-park homer, Ohtani was flying, but he pulled up at third and broke into a celebration dance, the typical Dodgers base hit celebration, inspired by Freddie Freeman’s signature shimmy.

Right behind him, in full Marlins gear, a fan couldn’t help himself. He matched Ohtani’s dance beat-for-beat, clearly caught up in the moment. And then, in maybe the most accurate metaphor for the state of the franchise, he peeled off his Marlins jersey and joined the celebration from the stands.

Because what else can you do when your team’s getting steamrolled at home and Shohei Ohtani continues to do what he does best.

The Dodgers are now 25-12, and Ohtani’s been a big reason why. Through early May, he’s slashing .299/.392/.640 with 10 home runs, 15 RBIs, and a scorching 1.031 OPS. He’s not even pitching yet, and may not for a while. There was early hope that Ohtani could return to the mound as soon as late May, but that idea’s cooled off with no firm timeline in sight. With arms dropping left and right in L.A., the Dodgers are in no rush. They want him healthy when it matters most, in October.

Until then, he’ll just keep hitting baseballs hard enough to make opposing fans abandon ship mid-game.
