LeBron James Addresses Retirement Rumors In Post-Game Interview Following Playoffs 2025 Elimination

Is LeBron James era coming to an end? The Los Angeles Lakers icon interacted with the media after their first-round NBA playoffs elimination for the second straight season. In his post-game interview, James reflected on the loss while answering questions around his retirement.

A reporter asked him how long would he play for. The 21-time NBA All-Star responded by saying that he doesn’t have any answer to that. James went on to say that it is something he would discuss with his family and support group, and then come to a decision.

The four-time NBA Champion said, “I don’t have the answer to that. Something I’ll sit down with my family, my wife, and uh my support group and kind of just talk through it and see what happens. Then just have conversations with myself on how long I want to continue to play.” He added, “I don’t know the answer to that right now to be honest.”

Notably, ever since his debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, King James has enjoyed a glorious career. James is the oldest active player in the NBA. Over the years, he amassed four NBA titles, four Finals MVPs, four regular-season MVPs, 21 All-Star selections and the all-time leading scorer as well as is a three-time Olympic gold medalist.

While he is still in red-hot form, James is already 40 years old and time and again discussions have begun to swirl whether it was time for him to draw curtains in his illustrious career.

LeBron James Reflects On Abrupt End to Lakers’ Championship Run

James reflected on an embarrassing end to his 22nd season in the NBA. Heading into the playoffs on the back of a 50-32 record, the third-seeded Lakers were considered heavy favorites to take down the Minnesota Timberwolves and advance to the semifinals. However, the Wolves recorded three back-to-back wins to kick JJ Redick’s side out of the championship contention.

James called the loss a disappointment. He said that every season he hasn’t been able to make it to the finals since his appearance in 2007 has been a disappointment. He stated, “I don’t know. I mean, obviously for me, since my first NBA Finals appearance, I think in 2007, the moment I got an opportunity to be a part of that and and taste that feeling. From there on, every season that I did not make it to the finals or did not win a championship has been a disappointment.”

He went on to say that it would be the same disappointment and unfulfillment for him this season as well. James added, “It’d be the same for me. It’d be the same offseason of disappointment and unfulfillment. Have an opportunity to play longer and give yourself an opportunity to play for the Larry O’Brien Trophy. So, nothing changes for me.”

In Wednesday’s 103-96 loss, James dropped 22 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. He finished the season with an average of 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per contest.
