Oilers Add Seven Players to Bolster Playoff Push

Edmonton Oilers bolster their playoff roster by recalling seven Black Aces from the AHL to add depth and flexibility.

The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for the playoffs with some fresh reinforcements. With their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, wrapping up their season, the Oilers have called up seven players to join the NHL squad. According to Bob Stauffer of 880 CHED, the list includes forwards Matthew Savoie, Noah Philp, and James Hamblin; defensemen Cam Dineen and Philip Kemp; and goaltender Olivier Rodrigue. All seven players took part in the team’s Saturday skate.

Leading the pack is top prospect Matthew Savoie, who had an outstanding rookie season in the AHL. The young winger posted 19 goals and 54 points in 66 games, finishing second in team scoring. Despite a brief four-game NHL stint earlier this season where he picked up just one assist, Savoie’s explosive postseason performances in the WHL suggest he’s built for big moments. He scored 65 points in 48 playoff games during his junior career and helped capture a WHL championship.

While Savoie brings high-end offensive potential, the Oilers also called up reliable depth options. Noah Philp, who had two assists in 15 NHL games this season, continued to show consistency in the AHL with 19 goals and 35 points in 55 games. Defenseman Cam Dineen, a key figure on Bakersfield’s blue line, led all Condors defensemen with 43 points in 59 games. Meanwhile, Olivier Rodrigue handled much of the goaltending duties, posting an 18-16-7 record and a .897 save percentage across 41 games.

Rounding out the group are forwards James Hamblin and Philip Kemp. Both spent the season in the minors after tasting a bit of NHL action last year. Hamblin impressed with 45 points in 51 games, often playing a top-line role, while Kemp had a quieter season with 12 points in 56 games.

While most of these players are unlikely to see immediate playoff action, their presence gives the Oilers valuable insurance if injuries strike. And for someone like Savoie, the playoffs could offer the perfect stage to make a strong impression at the highest level.
