Jimmy Butler Injury: What Happened to Jimmy Butler in Game 2 against Houston Rockets?

The Warriors lost the second game of the first-round playoff series against Rockets.

It wasn’t a day as the Golden State Warriors would have expected it to be. Apart from suffering an embarrassing 109-94 loss in Game 2 of the first-round series, the Warriors lost their superstar forward Jimmy Butler to a pelvic contusion early in the game. Butler, who is playing his first playoff series with the Warriors, suffered a hard-fall in the first quarter and was forced to exit the game.

The injury occurred with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter, when the Rockets’ Amen Thompson undercut Butler while going in for a rebound. The former Heat star landed awkwardly on his back and stayed there for a moment before exiting the game. The Warriors soon shared an update about him, sidelining him for the rest of the game.

When Will Jimmy Butler Return to Court?

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Butler will undergo an MRI on Thursday. Hence, it is expected that the decision on whether he would play in Game 3 will be taken depending on the severity of his pelvic contusion.

MRI expected tomorrow for Jimmy Butler, per source. Warriors have dealt with a couple of these pelvic contusions recently after similar falls from Steph Curry and Jonathan Kuminga. Curry missed two games. Kuminga missed one. Then it became a pain management issue.

Apart from it, head coach Steve Kerr also shared an update about their newly recruited superstar. Sharing how Butler felt about the injury, Kerr said, “Jimmy always says he’s fine.”

Before walking off, the 35-year-old posted three points, shooting 1-of-2 from the field and had two rebounds in eight minutes of action. Jonathan Kuminga stepped in for the side and tallied 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. The Warriors, who were leading the series, fell to the offensive prowess of the Rockets and suffered a 109-94 loss to tie the series 1-1.

The sides will travel to San Francisco for Game 3 on Saturday, April 26.
