Chelsea Goes To Fourth Place Level On Points to Nottingham Forest In the PL.

Chelsea after conceding a goal early into their visit to Fulham battled a long hour for the equaliser. However, it took their academy graduate Tyler George to come off the bench to score a stunning equaliser around the 80-minute mark. 

Enzo Maresca’s side controlled most of the game with 60% possession kept knocking the whole 90 minutes. Pulling eight of the 16 attempted shots on target, Chelsea had no answers till the last 10 minutes of the game.

As the game went to stoppage time in the second half, Chelsea winger Pedro Neto pulled a volley on the turn into the back of the net to put Chelsea ahead. The Blues are now level on points (57) with Nottingham Forest who’s played one game less. 

‘It’s Already a Good Season’ – Enzo Maresca After Fulham Win

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his confidence in the team despite going down early. Talking about creating a lot while failing to convert, the Italian manager addressed the post-match conference as: 

“I was quite positive. The team was creating chances and doing well. Sometimes we need to be a bit lucky. Tyrique’s goal gave us a boost. The team was performing well. I was quite positive.”

Continuing on his thoughts on the season so far, Maresca added:

“In the last three years Chelsea has never been in Champions League spots. It’s already a good season… and the goal from Pedro today doesn’t change that. It gives us a chance to be there!”.

George, The 19-year-old Chelsea graduate, had a brilliant game as he inspired the comeback in the London Derby. Addressing the player George, Maresca said:

“He is a talent, he has to work hard. He’s doing well with us, deserved a chance and the goal was fantastic. It was all very important because it gave us an energy boost for the last push.”

Pedro Neto on the other hand had a great game as he took the Player of the Match trophy. Completing 93% of his passes, Neto created three big chances upfront against Fulham. The Portuguese also scoring the winner in the dying moments for Chelsea will have his name chanted all week. 

Reflecting on what could this comeback victory mean and what lies ahead, Pedro Neto in his post-game interview said:

“I think it could be a big part of the season for us. We showed character. To be honest, I have no words. It is not easy to spend all season in the top four and we were out before this game. The character the team showed, we now need to think about Everton.”

Chelsea will face Everton next before their Conference League semis against Djugarden. With Forest, Aston Villa and Manchester City in similar positions as the Blues in the Premier League, the Champions League spots are anybody’s to grab. Moreover, Newcastle who leads City by just one point could also be considered in a similar race. 

It has been an intriguing season of the Premier League as we head to the final phases of the season. With such thin margins between the five clubs, every match day will be packed with action given the stakes. Final six matchdays will see a lot of switched around the table as the relegating battles will could also bring the best of the bottom half of the table.
