Quinton Byfield folds Bruins as Kings take big win in NHL preseason

Quinton Byfield scored a hattrick as Los Angeles Kings took down Boston Bruins in NHL preseason game.

The Los Angeles Kings picked their fourth straight win of the preseason with a convincing 4-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. The hero of the night? Young center Quinton Byfield, who put on a show with a masterful performance.

Byfield wasted no time making his mark, scoring a quickfire brace in the second period. It was a one-timer off a beautiful 2-on-1 rush followed by a rebound scored just 24 seconds later. This scoring burst within half a minute put the Kings firmly in control.

Byfield’s performance lived up to the preseason hype. His dominant display has come on the back of a strong 2023-24 season where Byfield notched 20 goals and 35 assists in 80 games.

The Kings’ victory wasn’t solely a one-man show, with Adrian Kempe adding another goal and Kevin Fiala contributing two assists.

The first period remained scoreless despite the Kings’ offensive charge. They created several scoring chances, with Adrian Kempe getting the best opportunity off a setup from Anze Kopitar.

The deadlock was broken midway through the second period courtesy of Byfield. He first found the back of the net with a one-timer on a 2-on-1 rush set up by Kevin Fiala. Just 24 seconds later, Byfield doubled the lead with a rebound.

The Bruins responded late in the second period with a power-play goal from David Pastrnak, but all hopes for a comeback were dashed when Adrian Kempe scored from Kevin Fiala’s assist.
