Trump Requests NFL To Abandon ‘ABSURD’ Kickoff Regulation

Resident-elect Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with the NFL’s new kickoff rule changes, reiterating his earlier demands for the league to turn back.

The updated “dynamic kickoff” rule, designed to promote more kickoff returns, has players from the kicking team now positioned on the opposing 40-yard line, instead of being located behind the kicker. Bringing the teams closer together aims to reduce high-speed collisions.

“The NFL should get rid of the ridiculous new Kickoff Rule!” Trump wrote.

The regulation includes a “landing zone” for each kickoff, designated from the receiving team’s goal line up to the 20-yard line. Two returners are situated in the Landing Zone and they are the sole individuals, apart from the kicker, who can move before the ball touches down.

The alteration in the rules has sparked controversy among certain fans, including the upcoming president. The modifications have faced backlash for eliminating the possibility of unexpected onside-kick attempts and for enforcing penalties on scoring plays during the point-after try.

In September, he stated that the rule alteration marked “the start of the finish” for the NFL. Since the regulation was implemented, the NFL has experienced a minor rise in the count of returned kickoffs.

Information from the initial four weeks of the season indicated that 29.1 percent of kickoffs were returned (187 out of 642 kickoffs), an increase from the previous season’s total of 21.7 percent (587 out of 2,698 kickoffs).
