Golden State Warriors vs Memphis Grizzlies Match Preview

Warriors rue marginal moments, Grizzlies need deep exploration

The Warriors needed just one more win to book a direct ticket to the first round of playoffs. They missed two golden opportunities to do so. On April 9, they lost to a weakened San Antonio Spurs as their former Wing Harrison Barnes made a game-winning three. Then, during the last day of the Regular Season, they couldn’t fend off the Los Angeles Clippers in an Overtime situation. Will these two errors cost them dearly? They do have a couple of chances to rectify their mistakes.

While the Warriors acquired a 23-8 period after trading for Jimmy Butler in February, the Grizzlies’ campaign has been downhill since then. They began the season on a bang with a 35-16 record but only had a 13-18 window to derail their season. Their inability to win against elite teams is a huge concern, as the team had a rather disappointing 16-26 record against teams with +.500 records.

Match-ups

The Warriors won the season series by a 3-1 margin. The only win for Memphis came in December, and it was a resounding 51-point triumph. Apart from that, it was all Dubs. They won all their games in single digits but comfortably, scoring 120+ in each of those affairs. At any rate, the key match-up here is Ja Morant vs Stephen Curry.

Curry did score 52 in their latest meeting in April, but Memphis held him below 15 in two of those meetings. But their defense isn’t currently at the same level, so there is a high chance they may be unable to fend him off. The off-guard match-up is key, and Dubs’ two-way guard Brandin Podziemsi will need to fend off the high-scoring Desmond Bane.

While both teams have strong two-way frontlines, the playoff experience of Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler can make a huge difference. It can be the biggest roadblock for Memphis in this game.

Warriors Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Stephen Curry | SG: Brandin Podziemski | SG: Moses Moody | SF: Jimmy Butler | PF/C: Draymond Green

Key Injuries/Updates: Nothing significant to report thus far

Grizzlies Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Ja Morant | SG: Desmond Bane | SG: Vince Williams Jr. | PF: Jaren Jackson Jr. | C: Zach Edey

Key Injuries/Updates: Jaylen Wells and Brandon Clarke are OUT for the postseason.

Golden State Warriors vs Memphis Grizzlies Total Over/Under Prediction

Considering their high pace, the Grizzlies’ centered game often goes past the 240 mark. They can score 120+ and also conceded more than that. The Dubs are more than capable of going past the 120 mark and also have the defense to contain Memphis under the 115 mark. Considering these factors, I believe this game will be in late 220s and early 230s.

Golden State Warriors Player Props Predictions- Projected Top Bets & Odds

Stephen Curry to score over 29.5 points: Curry averaged 24.5 PPG during the season but was limited to below 23 PPG by Memphis despite a 52-point masterpiece. I expect him to begin the postseason on a bang with a 30+ point performance.

Jimmy Butler to dish over 6.5 assists: The Warriors’ all-around Wing regularly distributed over 5 APG with the Warriors. He had 7 or more helpers in the last three games of the Regular Season, and I expect him to continue the trend here.

Memphis Grizzlies Player Props Predictions – Projected Top Bets & Odds

Ja Morant to be held under 24.5 points: The high-scoring Memphis guard has exploded for around 30 PPG since March, way above his season average of 23.2 PPG. He tallied 28 PPG in two games against the Dubs, including a 36-point outburst. But I believe he will be limited around his season average.

Zach Edey to pull over 11.5 rebounds: Edey accumulated 8.3 rebounds per game for the season and turned on the heat in April, averaging 15.7 RPG. He clamped down 11.3 rebounds per game against the Dubs this season, and I expect him to hover around that mark here.

Golden State Warriors vs Memphis Grizzlies Match Prediction

The Grizzlies’ frontline looks thinned out on both ends compared to the Dubs. It can be the biggest difference in the game. While Morant has the tools to match up to Curry, I don’t believe the greatest shooter ever will let Ja eclipse him. I expect a basketball clinic from the Warriors here on both ends and book the spot for the playoffs. They can win by 8+ points here.
