Vegas Golden Knights Sign Jackson Hallum to Two-Year Contract

Vegas secures young talent Jackson Hallum with a two-year deal, adding depth and speed to their roster for the future.

The Vegas Golden Knights have officially secured their 2020 third-round draft pick, Jackson Hallum, by signing him to a two-year entry-level contract. This move ensures that the promising young forward remains within the organization, as Vegas was at risk of losing his rights had they not signed him by this summer. However, it remains unclear whether Hallum will immediately join the Golden Knights’ active roster or if his contract will begin next season, allowing him to continue developing in the minor leagues.

Hallum arrives in Vegas after spending three seasons at the University of Michigan, where he showcased his potential despite facing some setbacks. In his junior year, he recorded eight goals and 17 points in 36 games, matching his freshman season totals despite playing three fewer games.

His sophomore season, however, was cut short after just nine games due to a knee-to-knee collision that sidelined him for the rest of the year. Before the injury, he had been off to a strong start with eight points in those nine games, but the long recovery period slowed his momentum.

This season, Hallum struggled to find his rhythm early on but gained traction after the new year, notching nine points in eight games in January. Just when it seemed like he had regained his scoring touch, his production dipped again, and he managed only two points in Michigan’s final nine games of the season. His inconsistency in offensive output remains an area he will need to improve upon as he transitions to the professional level.

Hallum is known for his well-rounded playing style, making smart plays and positioning himself effectively on the ice. At Michigan, he often played as the second or third forward on the forecheck, utilizing his speed and hockey sense to create opportunities.

He is a capable passer and can find open ice well, but his scoring numbers suggest he could benefit from adding more creativity to his game. Though he has played both center and wing, his faceoff win percentage has been below average, making the wing a more likely long-term fit for him.

With his college career behind him, Hallum is expected to join Vegas’ minor league affiliate, where he can further refine his skills and gain more confidence offensively. Now fully recovered from his past injury, he has a chance to make an impact at the professional level, and Golden Knights fans will be eager to see how he develops within the organization.
