Carolina sends WR Mingo and a 2025 seventh-round pick to Dallas, gaining valuable fourth-round selection in 2025 draft.
The Carolina Panthers acquired another selection for their 2025 draft inventory through a trade on Tuesday.
The Panthers swapped Jonathan Mingo, a second-year receiver, and a 2025 seventh-round pick with the Dallas Cowboys. As a result, the Panthers will receive the Cowboys’ fourth-round pick for 2025. Mingo was selected in the second round (No. 39 overall) of the 2023 NFL draft. In the last season and a half, he participated in 24 games and caught 55 passes (out of 111 attempts) for 539 yards.
After the trade, the Panthers now possess eight selections in the first five rounds of the 2025 draft: a selection in the initial three rounds, a pair of choices in the fourth round, three picks in the fifth round, and one selection in the seventh round.
Jonathan Mingo was selected as the fifth wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Seahawks selected Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the highest pick, No. 20 overall. Next up were Quentin Johnston (No. 21, Los Angeles Chargers), followed by Zay Flowers (No. 22, Baltimore Ravens) and Jordan Addison (No. 23, Minnesota Vikings).
Carolina chose Mingo at No. 39, ahead of Jayden Reed going to the Green Bay Packers at No. 50, Rashee Rice at No. 55 to the Kansas City Chiefs, and Tank Dell to the Houston Texans at No. 69.

Jones doesn’t look good when he is desperate. Although the Cowboys are justified in aiming to revamp their stagnant offense ranked 22nd in yards per play (5.2), it appears doubtful that a receiver surpassed by undrafted rookie Jalen Coker will significantly impact a 3-5 season, especially since Dak Prescott is expected to be sidelined for at least four games due to his hamstring injury.
The fourth-round draft pick’s return is very confusing, as there is not much evidence to justify such a high bid. While Mingo could have hidden talent waiting to be revealed in a different environment, Jones’ statement before the trade implied that the Cowboys are doubling down on a player they favored in the draft rather than focusing on actual on-field performance.
Panthers: A
Carolina surprised many by trading Diontae Johnson for a modest pick swap, but general manager Dan Morgan was able to secure even better draft capital for Mingo, who had been underperforming. The second-year receiver has been mostly irrelevant in the offense recently, failing to make a catch in the past three games. When it comes to giving up on a probable mistake from the former government, this is as good as it gets. Trading Adam Thielen is likely not an option right now due to other transactions, but Carolina can manage with the 34-year-old and Coker for the remainder of the season.
