Los Angeles Lakers vs Houston Rockets Match Preview

Lakers: Contenders or just pretenders?

The Los Angeles Lakers will come into this game after a 7-point win against the Memphis Grizzlies as Austin Reaves rained a 31-point night. It somewhat erased the hurt of a heartbreaking 2-point loss against the Chicago Bulls when the team coughed up a 6-point lead with less than half a minute in the game. The Lakers look like title contenders one night and then a first-round exit the next day.

The trio of Austin Reaves, Luka Doncic, and LeBron James is clicking well, but the latter two need to minimize their errors. The defense looks great for the most part, but it’s not as dialed-in during March (118.6 PPG conceded- 18th) as it was in February(107.3 PPG allowed- 2nd best). The difference shows in the record as the team is 8-8 this month compared to 10-2 last month. Will the Lakers correct the course as the postseason is at the doorstep? Don’t count the elite unit out.

Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Luka Doncic  SG: Austin Reaves | SF: LeBron James | PF: Rui Hachimura | C: Jaxson Hayes

Key Injuries/Updates: Maxi Kleber is OUT for the season

Rockets: Brilliant season, but are they playoff-ready?

The Houston Rockets will enter the match after clashing against the Phoenix Suns the previous night. Before that, they defeated the Utah Jazz by 11 points as Alperen Sengun turned up with a 33-point, 10-rebound night. They have taken full advantage of a weak schedule in March, winning more than 80% of their matches. But things will get tricky to finish the season as 7 out of their 8 games will be against postseason-bound teams.

The Rockets are a terrific rebounding squad, pinning down 48.6 rebounds per game(1st), pulling down almost 15 offensive RPG(1st). They have terrific depth in the frontline but the team is heavily dependent upon the duo of Jalen Green and Sengun. While they are fantastic offensive players, they are prone to cold nights, especially against tough defenses. The two need to correct this problem as time is nigh.

Expected Starting Lineup

PG  Fred Van Vleet | SG: Jalen Green | SF: Dillon Brooks | PF: Amen Thompson | C: Alperen Sengun

Key Injuries/Updates: Tari Eason’s status is UNCLEAR.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Houston Rockets Total Over/Under Prediction

The Lakers have been breaking the 120-point mark consistently since Luka Doncic has been a part of the team. However, their defense is also prone to giving these many points, too. Meanwhile, the Rockets are a slightly better defensive team, but a back-to-back situation, with both games away from home, is difficult terrain. Thus, there is a high chance they lose their concentration on the defensive end against a loaded offense. Overall, I expect the score to swing from the late 220s to the early 230s

Los Angeles Lakers Player Props Predictions- Projected Top Bets & Odds

Luka Doncic to dish over 9.5 assists: The Lakers PG has dished 8.6 assists per game in March, but he hasn’t tallied 10 assists in a game during the last six games, but my gut says he will the double-digit assists mark here.

Rui Hachimura to score over 14.5 points: Hachimura is working his way back from an injury but has found his groove with two double-digit scores in a row. He will make it three on a trot likely, figuring in the 15-18 range.

Houston Rockets Player Props Predictions – Projected Top Bets & Odds

Alperen Sengun to pull down over 11.5 rebounds: The Rockets’ big man has accumulated 10.3 rebounds per game in March. I believe he will grab 12-14 boards here.

Dillon Brooks to hit over 3.5 triples: The Rockets sharpshooter has averaged 2.7 made three-pointers per game this month. I believe he will hit 4 here.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Houston Rockets Match Prediction

The Lakers are doing a terrific job on the offensive end but need to fix their defensive issues ASAP. Doncic is still struggling to fit on the defensive end, but the team has some strong individual defensive pieces who can pick up the slack. Meanwhile, the Rockets need to win more against elite squads, but an away-from-home, back-to-back situation against a terrific team isn’t ideal. Thus, I expect them to lose by 5+ points

Hi, I am Shubham. I am currently an NBA Predictions Writer on The Playoffs. I enjoy this job because it helps keep me in the loop about the game I love while fulfilling the pleasure I derive from stats. I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
