The American is aiming to reach his first Miami Open final.
American title hope Taylor Fritz returns to court on Friday for the Miami Open semifinals, where he will face the Czech Republic’s Jakub Mensik. This will be the second time that the duo meets across the net. While Mensik came through his quarterfinal bout relatively unscathed, Fritz can’t say the same.
It has been a tournament to remember for Taylor Fritz. Despite being the third seed, his recent form meant that not too many eyes were on him. Having failed to reach a single semifinal this year, the 27-year-old saw six match points fly past him before edging Matteo Berrettini 7-5 6-7(7) 7-5 to reach the last four stage. This will be his sixth career ATP Masters-1000 semifinal.

“New blood is coming,” asserted Jakub Mensik after beating another youngster in the form of Arthur Fils in his quarterfinal match. The 19-year-old has transformed his game – he now possesses one of the best serves going around the circuit, pairing it up with supreme groundstrokes. If victories over Indian Wells champ Jack Draper and 17th seed Arthur Fils aren’t enough of a sign, we don’t know what is.
Taylor Fritz leads the head-to-head battle against Jakub Mensik 1-0. Their only meeting came at the 2023 US Open.
Coincidentally, it was on Jakub Mensik’s 18th birthday that the pair met for the first time – with Fritz coming through in a rout. While the American reached the final in Flushing Meadows just a year later, it is important to note that Mensik is also a completely evolved player since then. Having already been in the Top-50, he will look to settle the score with Taylor.

There are no prizes for guessing that the Miami Open 2025 semifinal between Fritz and Mensik is going to be decided by fine margins. The difference maker according to us? The local American fans. Fritz will ride the wave in the Hard Rock Stadium and possibly edge out the perseverance of the Czech prodigy – to set up a finals date with either Djokovic or Dimitrov.
