Soler was traded to the Braves in July this year.
The MLB 2024 season ended on Thursday with the Los Angeles Dodgers winning the World Series. As Los Angeles celebrates, the baseball world has switched into offseason mode. This offseason’s first trade was announced on Thursday night as the Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for right-hander Griffin Canning.
Soler, who was traded to the Braves in July this year, had a 0.241 average with 21 home runs and 64 RBIs during the 2024 season. The 32-year-old Cuban native ranked fourth in doubles (34) and 10th in walks (68) among outfielders this season.
Soler signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the San Francisco Giants during the offseason before making a move to the Braves.
He had previously played for the Chicago Cubs (2014-16), Kansas City Royals (2017-2021) and Miami Marlins (2022-2023) in the Major League Baseball.

Meanwhile, right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning, the Angels’ 47th overall pick in 2017, will be moving to the Braves.
Canning made 31 starts for the Angels this season and recorded six wins, 130 strikeouts, and a 1.40 WHIP in 171 2/3 innings pitched.
Canning has a 92 ERA+ over five seasons. With 94 of his 99 appearances as starts, he’ll likely be part of Atlanta’s rotation.
The Los Angeles Angels had a horror run in 2024. Riddled with injuries, Angeles set a new record for most losses in a year. The Angels registered a 63-99 record in the season which is the worst in franchise history.
Braves, on the other hand, secured a postseason berth with a win in the regular-season finale. However, Atlanta’s postseason journey didn’t last long as they were swept by the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Series just two days later.
