Coach Mike Sullivan Confirms Rust’s Indefinite Absence Following Injury Against the Wild
On Tuesday, Bryan Rust was placed on injured reserve by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
During the team’s defeat to the Minnesota Wild, the news was shared in a post on social media platform X by the team. Earlier in the day on Tuesday, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan allegedly stated that Rust was dealing with a lower-body injury and would be out for an undetermined amount of time.
The specific injury remains undisclosed. Rust sustained an injury in the game against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Assisted off the ice, he was then escorted to the locker room.
This season, Rust, 32 years old, has participated in eight games for the Penguins. With a total of three goals and one assist, he was absent from the lineup for the first two games of the season because of a lower-body injury.
Rust is prohibited from participating in any NHL matches for a minimum of one week following his placement on the injured reserve list. The Penguins will be welcoming the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, with a current record of 3 wins, 7 losses, and 1 tie.
Marc-Andre Fleury came back to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to play his last game at PPG Paints Arena. 39-year-old Fleury is on his retirement tour and was in the starting lineup when the Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.
It was a memorable evening in Pittsburgh for Fleury, who is still adored by fans in the Steel City. Supporters filled the PPG Paints Arena, with some sporting Fleury Penguins jerseys, to witness what is probably Fleury’s final game as a player in Pittsburgh. While the game was taking place, the Penguins showed a video tribute to Fleury, and he was greeted with a round of applause from the crowd. Fleury made his third start of the season on Tuesday.
“I think, just maybe (take a) deep breath, look around, take a good look around to keep good memories, Like I said, I was very fortunate to play here for so long. I’ve got souvenirs from this place, so it’ll be nice to do it one more time.” : Fleury said on Monday, according to the Associated Press.
Fleury stopped 26 shots in the Wild’s 5-3 victory on Tuesday evening. Fans were shouting his surname when the game ended.
