Darcy Kuemper Tops NHL’s 3 Stars of the Week Honors

Kings' goalie Darcy Kuemper earns top spot with stellar performances, including two shutouts and his 200th NHL win, leading LA’s winning streak.

Darcy Kuemper has been nothing short of sensational for the Los Angeles Kings, playing a key role in their recent five-game winning streak. The veteran goaltender has been nearly unbeatable, allowing just one goal across three starts while posting back-to-back shutouts. With a 3-0-0 record in that stretch, he recorded a stunning 0.33 goals-against average, a .987 save percentage, and two shutouts, further solidifying his importance to the team.

Kuemper’s dominant stretch began with a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders on March 11, where he turned aside 33 of 34 shots, including all 11 he faced in the final period. He followed that up with a flawless 21-save performance against the Washington Capitals on March 13, shutting out his former team in a 3-0 win. Two days later, he continued his brilliance with a 24-save shutout against the Nashville Predators, leading the Kings to a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory. That game marked a milestone for Kuemper, his 200th career NHL win (200-143-53 in 427 games).

Kuemper’s excellence has been particularly dominant at home, where he has extended his point streak to 13 consecutive games (12-0-1) dating back to December 7. With a 1.37 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage over that span, he surpassed Kings legend Kelly Hrudey’s franchise record for the longest home point streak by a goaltender.

At 34 years old, Kuemper continues to be among the league’s best this season. Through 38 appearances in 2024-25, he holds an impressive 22-8-7 record and ranks near the top in key goaltending stats—second in the NHL for goals-against average (2.16), third in save percentage (.919), and tied for third in shutouts (4). His active shutout streak of 154 minutes and 43 seconds further showcases his dominance.

With Kuemper in peak form, the Kings look poised for a strong finish to the season, making him a crucial factor in their playoff push.
