Nikola Jokic drops historic triple-double to create NBA history

Denver Nuggets star, Nikola Jokic achieved a feat for the first time in NBA history. The Serbian superstar scored a triple-double in Denver Nuggets’ 149-141 win over Phoenix Suns. Jokic became the first NBA player in history with a triple-double of 30+ points, 20+ rebounds and 20+ assists.

On Friday night, Nikola Jokic recorded 31 points, 21 rebounds and 22 assists. He led the entire game for the Nuggets. Suns forced an overtime through Kevin Durant’s 3-pointer but couldn’t prevail the defeat in overtime. Denver sparked a 7-0 run in the extra period and controlled the game.

Nikola Jokic tied his own team record with his 29th triple-double of the season and stretched his career total to 149. Jokic made 22 assists in the game and this is also an NBA record for a center.

The 2025 MVP contender tied with Oscar Robertson for a NBA record. He scored at least 15 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists in a game for the seventh time this season. Robertson holds the record for the most 15-15-15 games in a season in NBA history.

Nikola Jokic is also tied for the all-time lead in 15-15-15 games. Friday’s triple-double was his 15th instance to record at least 15 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists in a game.

“Nikola Jokic is one of one,” Denver coach Michael Malone said. “I mean, the first player to ever have a 30, 20, and 20 game. I can’t describe him, so don’t ask me to. The guy is just an incredible player, and when you are one of one in this league and the tremendous history of this league, that says a lot. And there’s a lot of good players in this league, but Nikola, in my opinion, is just in a class well by himself.”

Aaron Gordon also contributed 27 points for the Nuggets, including seven 3-pointer. Kevin Durant, who hit a buzzer-beater in fourth quarter, led the Suns with 29 points. Nuggets outscored the Suns 24-16 in overtime.
