“Just get a better deal”- Mark Cuban breaks silence on Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade

Mark Cuban opened up on the Anthony Davis-Luka Doncic trade.

The NBA world was taken aback when the Dallas Mavericks announced that they traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a draft pick. It took some time for the world to get along with the new adjustment, and in the meantime, a lot was said and a lot was heard.

However, Luka remained silent and has been letting his performance make all the noise. While the 26-year-old has well adjusted with his new teammates, the franchise is still receiving a lot of backlash for making the move. Recently, Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban opened up on the trade and shared his thoughts on the fiasco.

Mark opined that if the Mavs were thinking of trading Luka, they should have pursued a better deal. “If the Mavs are going to trade Luka, that’s one thing, just get a better deal. No disrespect to Anthony Davis…If we had gotten 4 Unprotected No. 1’s and Anthony Davis and Max Christie, this would be a different conversation.”

Mark, who is no longer not in control of making decisions after selling the franchise, admitted that he was not aware of the deal until it was completed. Notably, Mark sold his majority stake of the franchise to Adelson and Dumont in November 2023. He has shared deep affection for the Slovenian, and has time and again talked about it.

Are Mavericks regretting Luka Doncic’s trade for Anthony Davis?

Notably, the Mavericks’ decision of trading Doncic for Davis isn’t turning out to be a wise choice. Davis is 31 years old and has been injury prone since the beginning of his career. Playing his 13th NBA season, he has missed a total of 245 games so far across all the franchises due to multiple reasons, injuries remaining a primary one.

In his tenure for the Mavericks, the ten-time NBA All-Star has played only one game. He debuted for the Mavericks against the Rockets last month. However, Davis sustained an adductor injury and has been out of action since then.

The Mavericks, seeded tenth in the West, have lost six of their last eleven games. Making things worse, their star player Kyrie Irving, who shouldered responsibility for the side, sustained a season-ending injury. Now, there are reports that Davis might call time on the current season early to focus more on health after Irving’s injury.

In their last blowout loss to the Bucks, the Mavs were heavily shorthanded and had a total of nine players on the injury list. While there is no certainty, the Mavs are losing hope of playoffs qualification with each passing game.
